This is making the rounds big time because the penalty could be as much as 18 Billion dollars...

Also, if the fixed impairs performance... well, VW could have even bigger problems.

VW cheats on their tests.

EPA: Volkswagen used ‘defeat device’ to circumvent air pollution controls - The Washington Post

EPA officials, in a joint probe with California's regulatory agency, determined that Volkswagen had inserted a sophisticated algorithm in the cars emissions software that could detect when a vehicle was undergoing emissions testing. The software, which the EPA called a "defeat device", would turn on full emissions controls during testing, and switch them off again under normal driving conditions.

As a result, the cars emitted far more pollution than advertised-up to 40 times the federal standard for the pollutant known as NOx, a component in urban smog, the EPA said. NOx can contribute to asthmatic attacks and other respiratory illnesses than send millions to the hospital each year.

How is GM doing with their key switches? Believe I read where it is now over 100 deaths due to known bad switches.

The only thing I questioned on it is that when the Dealer we bought the car from, took it to the actual VW dealer, the VW Dealer charged over 300 dollars to our dealer to fix the car. The car is still under factory warranty, why were they charged for it?? I mean, I dont really care its not like I had to pay for it but still makes me ponder....

This may seem like a silly question, but if the car was still under factory warranty, why didn't you just take it there yourself? May have saved lots of hassle.

The OP documented everything was resolved to his satisfaction, on his gasoline powered VW, almost 2 weeks ago. VW has been accused of cheating on their diesel powered cars. If found guilty, perhaps the EPA can use the fine to clean up the river they polluted.

I would have if it wouldn't have happened literally 5 minutes after driving it off the lot. If it would have been Within the next few days or a week later I would have just went to the VW dealer myself. But I didn't think it was right to let it slide since it happened directly coming off the dealers lot when they assured me it was completely fixed and ready to go.
