Re: OK, here\'s my pond-Notice anything wrong???

Sometimes the old sickle-bar mowers are the best. Does the mower come with a shorter bar? My pond dams are really curved up to the crown and that long a bar would leave the grass at the lip of my pond about 18" tall...or at least that's my guess. I love the idea, but I'd prefer a 3' or 4' bar. ...I think. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I usually do "back in" towards the water. I was mowing parallel to the edge and the crust broke. Things just started slipping even with 4WD, using differential lock and trying to get a foot on the landside brake. Luckily, it wasn't real steep.

CCI,
Can you angle the sickle bar up or down?
I need something eventually to trim the backside of my dam which is about 45 Degrees sloped.
How much to ship to central Texas?

Re: OK, here\'s my pond-Notice anything wrong???

The super 65 needs only 12 HP to operate the cutterbar and the weight is 300 lbs. Most dams constructed since 1982 are not more than 30 degree. The Super 65 will mow 20 degree down. The only other solution is a boom mower that would cost $4,000- 5,000. Freight to Texas would be around $100 but with your zip code we'll give you the exact amount. We just shipped one to Montana.

Sickle Bar Mower

Mark--

Thanks for the picture. The implement looks like it could be useful. As others have asked, a shorter bar might be optimal--any availability? Some more questions: What is the range of the hydraulic kit (say in degrees from horizontal up and down), how does it attach, what would it add to the $950, and I assume it operates off standard remotes? How far below horizontal can the cutter operate? What would you charge shipping to Cincinnati? Is there a standard warranty? And what is the replacement cost of the cutter head should something go wrong? Thanks for your time in answering.

Re: OK, here\'s my pond-Notice anything wrong???

If I had a dollar for every time I got my tractor stuck like that I could afford a Winch. Even with my bucket on, sometimes I still can't get out because the ground is so soft around the lake that the ground moves not the tractor. I bought a sickle mower and that helped, but I once got to close on the right side and both wheels sank. This is a common problem in east Texas because of the type soil we have.

Re: OK, here\'s my pond-Notice anything wrong???

I did the same thing on my pond had a penisula that was a pain to mow so I decided to dig it out. Had to swallow my pride and hire a tow truck to get it out after trying for 2 hours with my brother and my 4X4 to get it out. The torential rain did not help to much. Loader was no help in the black much that swallowed have the rear wheel on the L3010

Re: OK, here\'s my pond-Notice anything wrong???

I have a seven foot MF sicke bar mower and I manage to get stuck at least once every year mowing around my lake/pond. Would like to have a nine footer to reach farther out in the water. I don't like lilies and cattails growing where I camp and fish. I know your not supposed to mow in water but the end result looks great.
