OK, OK, I give, Home Depot is lousy

I just got off of the phone with Home Depot and we have a solution. I called the national customer service line last week to complain. They called me back saturday while I was gone. I got hold of them tonight. The lady in customer service told me she had talked with the manager of that department and he told her that Home Depot would not be liable for cutting the hole ( I am sure do to the possible electrical, plumbing issues described by people in other posts) The lady at customer service told them that it was never an issue about them cutting the hole that the customer was happy to do that. The issue was about cutting a hole in the wall and waiting for the door to arive. The manager for that department once he understood that I was going to cut the door said he could wait until the door was here to set up an installer visit. When the door gets here they will call me. I can then cut the hole and they will send out an installer to measure the opening to make sure it is right. The installer will then set up an apointment to install it. It still is a slow process but at least a workable one. The customer service lady checked to see the delivery date of the door. It is scheduled for January 6, 2007. If i had agreed to the method the store manager said I had to use and cut the hole in my wall before they ordered the door. I would have had to have an opening in my living room wall that was approximatel 64 inches by 82 inches during the monts of november, december and a part of january. I know I live in the southern part of the US but it was 25 degrees here last night and we will see colder weather next month. Thankfully now the problem is resolved and I can get my wife her new front door in without me having to take the liability of installing it.

Actually there is wireing in the wall that will have to be moved. That is really not a hard thing to do. I wired the house myself so moving it should be no problem. I have never had an issue with having to have a rough- in opening ready when they come out to install the door. If that is something I have to do as my part of the install that is ok with me. The big issue for me is to have to have that opening in place before they will order the door. I would expect that if when they come out to install the door and the opening was not the right size then they would have to make a second trip and I would be charged an extra fee for that second trip.

I agree, sounds ridiculous. I always work with rough openings, never heard of it any other way. If they demand you have the opening there prior to ordering, I just can't help but to think about finding someone else. Electrical can be tricky. You cannot make a blind splice in the wall. Because of that, you may and often do need to open more drywall.

I suspect that when the big box stores first open a new store, they have a lot more people staffing the stores. Once they have been around awhile they cut back on the quantity and maybe the quality of staff. When the Home Depot first opened the service was awesome. Now it is like Lowe's. Has anybody else seen this?

Uh....... well hazmat, you have me stumped on this. I wasn't trying to cause any problems, I was only mentioning the cost of a plumbing supply. I don't know how else to describe this particular fitting, but I will try.. I purchased a 1" threaded piece of pipe that was threaded at both ends and is approximately 2" long, made of brass, with the threads almost meeting at the middle. That sure is a lot of words to describe what a single word denotes. Problem is that the English language uses many words that are spelled the same, and are pronounced differently, such as lead (the metal) and lead (to be directed), or have different meanings when used in a sentence. You can't take a word out of the context of that sentence of which it is used and apply another meaning to it. That just isn't right. My apologies for offending fellow members for using the word. I will strike that word from my vocabulary when posting in the future. One of the problems with plumbing fittings is that they use a lot of body parts terms to describe what they are, such as foot valve, elbow, coupling, union, etc.

Mentioning the fitting name in context was OK (If you look back you'll notice that the post is still there), it was the several posts following that started with "He said ...."

Rat, I agree I would have told them I would go elsewhere for my door but after days and days and days and days of searching for the perfect door it was the one my wife wanted. I am sure some of you married guys understand this concept.
