That is funny. I knew an elderly gent that rode a big touring bike, I think it was a Goldwing or something. Anyway, he always had 3 or four steelies about 1" in diameter that he would casually drop on the road when someone was tailing him real close. They would invariably bounce onto the tailgater's car and cause some real damage. He thought that was a real hoot until he deployed his deterrent on an unmarked patrol car. He ended up in some real trouble over this stunt, deservedly so. I'm glad he got caught before he ended up killing someone. He should have affixed something to the bike in a precarious posistion to achieve the same effect.

Agreed. However;

Not to hijack the thread again, but as a former rider I have to wonder why the unmarked car was tailgating so closely in the first place.

I've found that service in Home Depots varies depending on the store. The two I used to shop at before moving here were great. The best places I'd been to for home supplies.

Than I moved here and was blown away at how much cleaner, nicer and helpful peopel were. I had nothing to compare to this sort of experience. It was very pleasant and enjoyable. But after awhile, I noticed that Home Depot didn't do a good job at stocking plumbing supplies, so I would go to Lowes for those. I liked Home Depot better for Lumber and Cabinets, but Electrical was about the same.

We just got a brand new super Lowes last year. It's much larger than a regular Lowes and it's just amazing. This store has the most helpful staff I've ever encountered. They are on average older than I am and it's a small town of just a few thousand people. Lindale, TX. It could be the management or the fact that the emoployees are there because they want to be there, but compared to what I thought was good stores, this one is far above anything else. Plus it's only 11 miles from my place and all Interstate driving.

With this new store, I rarely go to Home Depot anymore unless it's the closest store for what I'm doing. I've found Ace to be the worse store for service and product and avoid it if I can. I think it's the owners there, they just don't seem to care if you shop there or not, plus they don't keep it very clean. McCoys is the best for large jobs with discounts and delivery, but for just buying small items, they are just ok.

The Supply houses have everything there is, but they are more expesive than the box stores. 12/2 or 14/2 romex is still cheaper at Lowes in my area.

As for packaging ploys, anyone remember the first time you saw cheap shotgun shells in boxes of 20 rather than 25. I did not pay attention and bought up a bunch thinking I was getting a deal. I mean who ever heard of 20 shells in a box? I was soooo mad. Fool me once..........

Haven't noticed that because I don't bird hunt much, but watch out for the 40# bags of deer corn...instead of 50#.

Also, I remember reading that a large source of our copper comes from South American mines and that there have been shortages coming out of those countires which has been a major contributor to the higher then normal prices.

How much higher does it have to go before you go back to the "crank"? I used to have a B that would kick off first turn. Nice tractor.

FYI the HD is cheeper than lowes in my area as well. usually by 5-10%.

ive learned to help myself. most store codes are 0123, 4321 etc, it takes all of about 30 sec to brute force the right code.

I recently purchased a list of supplies for electrifying my shop... including 460 ft of 1/0 cu wire and breaker box, etc. I went to two electrical supply houses for bids and to HD. I discovered that HD will meet electrical supply prices and beat them by maybe 10%, collect the stuff up and have it ready for me to pick up. For me, the secret was to go to the PRO desk... where contractors go...told them that my needs were small by their standards, but big by mine... and that I was looking for competitive bids.... worked for me... bought from HD, which was cheapest.

I had a bad experience years ago with the service at lowes. I sent an email to Lowes headquarters the next day I got a call from one of the stores managers asking what he could do to help. I told him his store service was lousy and I was going to start shopping at home depot. He asked me If I would come by the store and chat with him. I did and I have had great service at that store since then. He took a lot of the comments I made and acted on them

I had a bad experience in Home Depot last weekend. My wife decided she wanted a new front door. She wanted to replace the 36 inch plain steel door with a Mahogany door with leaded glass and 12 inch leaded glass side panels. Not a cheap door. We went to order it and due to the cost and size I wanted no part in trying to mount this myself so we opted to pay for installation. I asked the salesman if they would cut the opening larger or if I had to do that and put up the headers. I was told that the way the process worked I had to pay for them to come out and measure the opening, when the installer determined that I had the right size opening he would notify the store and they would order it. I pointed out that would not work because the opening for the door was going to have to be cut larger and I did not intend to have a 5 1/2 foot opening in my wall in the winter while they were ordering a door and getting an apointment to have it installed. I loved the excuse they gave me of why they did it that way. They wanted to make sure that they ordered the right size door to fit my opening. I pointed out that since I was going to have to make the opening to fit the door it was going to be pretty hard to have it the wrong size. Home Depot would not budge on that. I finally wound up just ordering the door without installation and I am going to hire someone to install it when it gets here. I would have told them what to do with my buisness but they are the only one that sells that brand of door and it was the one that my wife wanted. I am however going to send Home Depot an email and explain to them that I am going around to various lumber stores in the area and giving them a list of what I need to build my 4 car garage. Home depot is not one of the places I am considering purchasing those materials.

I've had mixed results with the "pro" desk.

I think it really depends on the store and their staff and managers, if you find a good one cherish it. But, be aware that the cream rises, so the good guys will get transferred sooner or later, or kicked upstairs.....
