OK to use Float to lower bucket?

Like somebody said earlier - in float workports A&B are connected to tank but it is upto the valve designer and machine manufacturer how much the ports are open to tank and therefore during the development process trials are done to check the rate of drop during float and then the amount of opening is increased or decreased. this means there is no extra restriction other than the spool design itself. during lower of a heavy load in this manner you could (as somebody already said) cavitate the non-load holding side of the cylinder.

I have a Kubota L3200HST and float position drops the bucket like a rock. How can I slow it down?

Thats interesting, here is a very short video of its predecessor an 2010 L3400HST
you can hear the hiss as I throw it into float and the bucket drops slowly. Well at least not rapidly.
My Kioti that I currently own however does drop like a rock.

As for fixing it, I don't see a good way, I believe it is a function of the design of the valve.

I'm with you James. I just came in from using my FEL in float to back-drag a trench for underground power. I use the bucket and attach a drag harrow to it. Regardless of whether I m just using the FEL by itself with a bucket or have the added chain harrow, it goes down with a bang if I just push it into float.

Interestingly it was one of the first things I noticed different in operation from the Kubota when I switched to the Kioti.
It is not a big deal, I just make sure that the bucket is near the ground before I shove it into float. But the first couple of times when the bucket was up high and I shoved into float was a big surprise:shocked:
