I'm afraid to FLY in perfectly good airplane. I sure wouldn't jump out of it.

I have always wondered why someone with as much common sense as you would jump out of a perfectly good plane with a peice of silk strapped on their back side........but you make it look fun. Love the beard shot, that one will be around TBN for a long time.

The falling isn't so bad, it's the landing you have to be careful of.

Love the beard pic!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations Harvey,

Eddie

I don't think Harvey did it. I saw one picture where it looked like Gabby Hays was jumpin', but Harvey doesn't have that much fuzz on his face. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Congrats Harvey! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I did a tandem jump here in WA about 2 years ago. My wife was pregnant with the first kid so I figured I had better go for it. Heck, I had good life insurance. The wife was not thrilled when I told her about it.... after the fact.

We jumped up at 12000 feet and I got to free fall and be driven, really like a passenger hooked to a nice young gal by my harness.

The landing was very pleasant, I lifted my legs and we slid in on her rump. She unhooked me and walked back to fold up the chute.

I watched a 30 minute video about how you could die before the jump and thats it. 150$ later I was high on life. Highly recommended.

Harv,
Loved the pics /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Around here you can't do any type of free fall for the first 5 jumps. First 5 must be static line. I had been given a birthday gift of my first jump. Spent several hours in class on a 90° day, went to the equipment barn and got checked out. Spent the next few hours waiting on an available plane. The local jump club had all the planes tied up. Finally got off the ground at 4 PM or so. The ride up was great, 4 of us newbies on board. Of course I was the first to load up, I was the last to get out..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
All first jumps were to be at 2500' but since we had waited all day they took us up to 4500'. I scooted to the door, set my feet out on the pads, grabbed the wing strut and inched my way out. There are 2 hand prints painted on the wing strut, you need to be right there. Then there was the command from the Jump Master to look up, there is a big red dot painted on the underside of the wing, when you see the dot........LET GO!!!!!
Do you have any idea how hard it is to let go of the plane at that point?
To make it short........I looked up, let go, 25' later the static line pulled the chute. Looked up, I have a canopy, SWEET, no need for the emergency chute. Caught a "thermal" which will keep you from descending. I rode it out /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. When I hit the ground I was soaked from the rush. That rush is one memory I will never forget. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Way to go harv. I've been telling the wife that I want to do that also. She just says, "Yup, Ok". Someday I will take that leap from a plane.

If you do a look up for skydive dallas you'll see they have the AFF (accelerated free fall) classes. You're give about six hours of class, most of it about what happens after the chute opens. Then you're taken up to thirteen thousand five hundred feet.

I suspect the rush comes from the emotional build up we all go through.

One of the interesting things that I noticed at thirteen five besides the great A/C was all of the people on the plane showed physical signs of apprehension. That reminded me of having the urge to urinate just before starting the motor at the beginning of a race. Even though just before I'd climb in the car I'd go use the restroom.

Then one afternoon while we were lined up ready to file out I was lined up behind the guy who'd been the track champion forever. All of a sudden he jumped out of his car and urinated beside it. I never had the urge to do it again in that situation. I realized it was normal and unnecessary.

(btw I got an invite to drive a local car anytime I want to show up at the track the other day, my wife suspects me having an age issue) /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
