Re: Okay here\'s a really dumb question

Hmm... what about a small rotary cutter.. like a 3' or 4' just for the tight spots?

For comercial applications, I've seen something that looks like a rototiller made to attatch to front end loaders in place of the bucket.. it is for pretty heavy duty land clearing... you just drive into brush and it eats it.... will stump grind too... I'm sure this would do it.. but at waht cost /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Guess I'll be watching this thread too!

Re: Okay here\'s a really dumb question

another angle would be a multi spindle brush cutter. it gets width without the length - just a thought.

Re: Okay here\'s a really dumb question

If these trees are 6' apart, they shouldn't be very big and I would consider thinning the area with a chainsaw to enable clearing and maintaining over the long haul with a 3pt brushcutter. Otherwise you will be saddled with some type of walk-behind mower.

That's interesting! I have my doubts that a belt drive would handle any heavy brush. It might work OK though.

Here\'s a dumb abswer.

Would fencing it off and running goats be out of the question? Might as well make some money from the cleanup.

Re: Okay here\'s a really dumb question

What about a flail mower? They are shorter than rotary mowers. Aren't they used a lot in orchards for just that reason? I think they are lots more expensive though...

Re: Okay here\'s a really dumb question

I doubt if there is such a thing as a mid-mount "brush hog" and here's why. The brush cutter relies on the power produced by the one spindle spinning the heavy blades from the sides of a stump jumper center "plate". A five foot cutter is not only 5-feet wide, but more than 5-feed long, thus it wouldn't fit as a mid-mount (mid mounts use shorter, multiple blades).

Re: Okay here\'s a really dumb question

As already mentioned the mid mount mower may have a tendency to hang up on stumps because of limited lift height. Will there be any problem with poking holes in the tires from the stumps?
