I guess it must have been about 3 years ago or so when that quake centered in Illinois happened. We felt it here in south central KY.
Like already mentioned, seems like there is more and more seismic activity so after Japan got whacked so bad this year, I finally looked into earthquake insurance on our property.
At least in KY, your regular policy does not cover quake insurance. Then, when that quake I mentioned happened, for awhile Farm Bureau did not even offer it. With no repeat performance they did eventually offer the coverage. By the way there is a ten grand deductable off the top.
Still that is better than nothing and the cost for a year is about 100 bucks. So, earlier this year, I was doing some modifications to my policy and rather than pocket the 100 bucks I would have saved by removing some equipment, I put it towards adding quake insurance.
Thought this might be of interest.
