Old Case 580CK for farm backhoe

I also bought a 1968 580CK earlier this year. So far I invested $3800 in purchasing the machine, then abut $3,000 on a variety of fixes, but I did drive it home. Still have two cylinders to rebuild and the biggee; the backhoe control valve which leaks about a quart of HF every hour the engine is running. But, it is running and digging holes. She is a real worker though. By next year, I think she will be at 100%, but then there is the paint.

Years ago, I was bothering the wife about our need to get a tractor. I wanted a TLB and something to mow the fields with.

Finally got her approval to bring a JCB 1550 home. The JCB lifts more, reaches farther, digs deeper than the tractor and cost about what a Bradco hoe would have cost as an add-on.

Today (12/15 years later) most of the grunt work is done. I could literally give the machine away and we'd be money ahead for all we've done with it.

It's been a fun ride. Enjoy your new toy. Just do NOT, and I repeat, NOT do what I did. Do not get the wife up there, learning the backhoe controls such that she can use the machine.....and you off-handedly tell someone she's the best Hoe'r in town.....

For anyone looking for manuals - watch for the word "searchable" in the description. If it's not there, it is probably just a collection of PICTURES of each page - unless the editor has taken the time to CONVERT these "pictures" with OCR software, a search will result in "not found", period.

There have been a rare few advertisers that have searchable manuals that do NOT say that in their ads, but it's rare. Prices as of this date - $10-20, usually NOT searchable. $20-40 typically ARE searchable.

Once you've looked for a particular thing in a searchable one, you will NEVER want to go back - especially with pdf's of manuals that had a crappy index to begin with - the searchable version will return EVERY instance of your term in the file.

Also, for the poster that thought his tach cable used to go to a generator - look on the right side of the block maybe 10" from the back of the block, you will probably see a round depression there with what looks like some short piece of steel tubing sticking out - that's the tach drive... Steve
