Good morning, my transmission is locked up in a forward gear and am looking for videos or other info on how to fix this problem. It's a 3 speed manual first year cubs were made. Still runs great-help

If it sat with the clutch engaged, the clutch could be stuck.

If the clutch is free, there is a possibility that the gear shift mechanism has a problem. Dad had a 102 that wouldn’t shift due to some part that came loose in the shift mechanism. Is not common, but have read others had this issue. I am sorry to say I don’t remember exactly what repair was needed. I think it was a minor repair. The transmission itself is trouble free usually.

Some info for ya:

To fix a 1961 Cub Cadet locked in forward gear, check the shift lever mechanism for any obstructions, worn parts, or misalignment, and carefully disassemble and clean the components to ensure smooth shifting; if the issue persists, inspect the transmission linkage and ensure it's properly connected and adjusted, and may require replacing worn parts like the shift lever bushings or linkage cables.

Sounds like you're locked in 2 gears at the same time. This is normally caused by the ball end at the end of the shifter gets worn and won't move a shift rail to disengage the gear you were in but will move the other shift rail to engage another gear.

That transmission is actually the same transmission used in the full sized International/Farmall Cubs. Here is a link to the Case/IH online parts book for a Farmall Cub showing the shifter portion: Case IH | Schematic, Manuals, Specifications and Diagrams for drive train, gear shift mechanism | MyCNH US Store

I'd advise removing the top cover which the shifter is part of. You can manually move the shift rails to get it back in neutral. If you look at the ball shaped end on the shift lever, you'll probably see some notable wear. This can be built back up with a welder, preferably a MIG or TIG, then ground back to size. To what exact size I don't know. It may be possible to mic a non-worn portion and get a measurement.

There are some used one's out there, but some may be as worn as what you have. I've seen prices range from $65 up to $159.99 for a new aftermarket one. You can do your own search by entering/copy & paste this part number to Google to get the best results.

I used to be a vintage Cub Cadet owner, but only ever had their hydrostatics, most recently a 1963 model 123.

I hate to send you to another forum, but onlycubcadets.net used to be where all the CC restoration guys used to hang out. If still active, you might get more focused advice over there.

When Dad repaired his Cub transmission, it was done by removing the top cover, without having to disassemble the entire transmission.
