I repowered an old Cletrac OC3 with a 74 Mustang 4 cyl engine. It was quite simple. Mounted the engine in the frame, machined an adapter to match the Ford trans input shaft to the Cletrac transmission, started it up and drove it away. It was the fastest OC3 in the East. I sold it probably 20 years ago and the last I knew it was still going strong 2-3 yrs ago skidding firewood, plowing and light dozing.

Nine fingers just suggested what I was a fixin to say. Farm Show is really a great collection of standard and off the wall stuff that ruralites and others have made. They have special editions that cover some particular vein of topic, like re powering something.
If you don't know, you should pick up a sample copy, and or get a dvd that covers the whole shebang.

BTW, pretty sweet little Case cat in the snow.-;)

The last few posts were spot on the repower. I had a friend that logged and had a small dirt and gravel pit. He had an old Allis Chalmers HD 5 truckloads that the engine slung a rod. He didn't have another engine available so he had an old 4 cylinder Perkins wit a 3 speed transmission on it. He put it in place it to input shaft on th old loader and it worked decent. For normal operation he put the 3 speed in 3rd and could use the loader transmission but for sensitive work like setting a form or moving something into place both in low gear it would only travel 1/4 mph.
