I am trying to help my neighbor identify his old Ford. I can't post a picture of it right now and only have 1 mildly helpful detail besides a description. It is originally Ford blue, has the round front hood with headlights either side like an 8N, not sloped front to back like the 3000s and 4000s. It doesn't have a starter button, but a handle that makes connection to the solenoid which then fires the starter and the solenoid is not mounted on the starter. It has a guage package kind of like a 600 model. Intake is mounted high on right side, and has a ported canister that appears to be stopped up (it won't throttle up in low gear, either). And under the hood just to the front of the steering wheel, it says MADE IN ENGLAND. We couldn't find anything else legible on it. It hasn't been well cared for, but it runs. Any help is appreciated.

Gasoline engine? Overhead valves? Maybe a Ferguson TO-20 or similar. The mechanical link to the solenoid button may be "after-market." Does it look jury-rigged?

Thanks, guys. I guess I should've stated it is a diesel. The mechanical start is original. It favors the Fordson Major w/headlights, but not that big. Looking for a picture of a Dexta now. I appreciate it.

8 forward and 2 reverse. And I'm really guessing since I only heard him say something about being in "4 High". He kind of wallers the shifter around, hunts a place to push or pull it to and keeps doing that until something grinds and then he knows it's in gear. He knows if its in High or Low but I don't think he knows if its 1st or 4th until he pops the clutch. It is a VERY poorly maintained machine.

Could be but not always.. some people refer to the 'fake gear.. for example.. a 3spd with h/l range.. will give you a (4 high ) when you are in 1st gear, high range.. etc.

Try to get us some pics for a more definitive guess ;)
