Typical hard to start weed eater or 2 cycle problems but works just fine.
How are you starting it? I have always been able to pull-start small engines very quickly by following these steps:
  1. Turn the killswitch to on
  2. Press the Primer bulb 3 times
  3. Put the choke to full
  4. Pull the rope until it coughs or tries to catch
  5. Drop to 1/2 choke
  6. Pull the rope again and it starts within 2-3 tries
These steps normally let me start a 2 or 4 cycle small engine in 5-6 pulls.

Am pretty much following the same steps you outline. I guess I am just going by being spoiled by the ol "pre-EPA" tuned equipment. One maybe two pulls and off we go. My late 70's Troy bilt has the original B&S engine and STILL starts on the first pull or even older BMW 500 motorcycle starts every time on the first kick or push through the kick starter by hand.........OH well........thanks.....Dennis

Some engines just seem to start better than others, too.

I really got good service out of my Sthil FS80. If yours is made as well as it was, then you've got a good one.
