Old rusty Ford 545c industrial tractor 4x4 what do I need to know?

i think theres a new holland variant identical to the ford 764

oddly enough i found a 764 for sale locally only 20 mins away. the issue is it looks pretty rough and could end up costing quite a bit to get it operational. secondly without a subframe/mount kit and hydraulic install kit this thing is would need all of that custom fabbed.

seems like a simple 3pt hoe would be so much easier

3pt. hoes are notorious for pulling the top link attach out of the tractor casting.
Thus, they are generally considered to be....... not a very good idea.

I think you have to re-evaluate your needs, budget and what you have to start with. The tractors are designed to accomplish certain tasks. They are engineered to withstand those forces. When you look at the forces a backhoe can generate, the tractor has to be able to withstand those forces. By using a backhoe, or any attachment, that is outside the parameters, you will damage the tractor or cause injury to someone.

The 764 is what Ford specified for that tractor. If the 764 near you is not complete, it is not worth anything. You will never find the sub frame within your area or in your budget. If the backhoe were complete, the price would be outside your comfort range. A backhoe is a nice tool but it is an expensive tool if you do not use it all of the time.

I was kind of hoping the industrial build strength of this tractor would help tame the use of say a woods 1050 type hoe

I don't think you would have an issue. If you don't abuse it then you should be fine. You can keep looking for the 764, the 3 points are usually easy sells at the right price.
