Old Topic But New Info: SUDT or UDT?

I'm using Chevron Synthetic oil but am switching to Amsoil as I can no longer get the Chevron. But I'd use SUDT if the price were reasonable. The synthetic runs quieter than the SUDT. Less hydrostatic noise especially in the winter.
If I recall correctly the Amsoil was cheaper than SUDT at the local dealer? And a couple years ago I called Kubota customer service and they claimed the SUDT was not synthetic.

Synthetics are better than dino. That's not the issue. The issue are they cost effective. For some they are, for some they are not.

BTW, when you make a mistake in a post, you can edit it. No need to post twice.

I would not say they are better all around. Been there done that in UOA world...But, Are synthetics worth it, yup, 50/50....

I got some SUDT and it was more then Amsoil. Amsoil would be better but I do not know if they up'ed the price (monthly)

The wording on this thread could be confusing to some.
SUDT is NOT synthetic, it is a multi viscosity mineral oil PRICED like a synthetic.
If you think you are going to be better off, because of thermal properties using a synthetic, you should consider using an actual synthetic. They are typically priced at or below SUDT. KennyV.

Define synthetic.
The line between what used to be a true synthetic and what is now called synthetic is very blurred. Many oils now sold as synthetic aren't -using the old traditional definition- before the infamous Castrol/Mobil fiasco. But then again many oils that aren't "really" synthetic perform just as well as some true synthetics. Clear as mud.

Gee, this thread kind of got off track from my original post.
I just wanted to let people know that Kubota UDT would be going away and SUDT will be the only choice (from Kubota that is).
OK....you may continue the "synthetic" vs "not really" debate

What if you have UDT in your tractor and UDT is no longer available. There is not enough hours on your oil to justify changing it over to SUDT and you are a quart low on fluid. Can you add SUDT to UDT?

Bear in mind that I have a gear transminssion (not HST), but fr what I understand, the answer is yes.

I simply wanted to state that SUDT is NOT synthetic, it is only priced to make you think that the S may stand for synthetic. I am with many others that feel a good quality UDT is fine in any Kubota use whatever you like. KennyV.

I agree that any UDT would work just fine. I don't have the low temp worries of some so one of the main advantage of SUDT just would not help me. Oh well
