first, I am glad you are not seriously hurt. However, if you been in direct line of fire with hydraulic fluid, its possible you had some injected into you. you will notice swelling, bruises. this calls for a visit with doctor to be looked over.

Now - with a new pump that is modified to fit, new leaks, old hoses starting to go, its time to stop and check the pressure before doing anything else. if it jumps over 3k psi, on a tractor, sounds like pressure releif is not kicking in. did someone modify the springs, or too many washers/shims to have higher pressure.

My advice, - (keep in mind that it may not be right advice as I am not an hydraulic expert) I would replace the blown hoses, get a liquid filled pressure gauge hooked up on fel port. without using the controls, what does the pressure say ? 0? good then check pressure move moving stick and see whats the max reading you get. If it zooms over 3500 psi, I'd stop using it and get an expert to look it over or do more detective work on it before using it.

Egon and Joel have the right idea. The previous owner tried to save some money by doing it himself and you could have been blinded easily, if not out right killed. There's another thread about pressure relief valves. Read that one through, try and understand what they're talking about, and I'll bet you'll agree that a pro should handle this job.

Just as an added note...if ever hydraulic fluid ends up injected under your skin you need to seek immediate medical attention..the area with fluid has to be surgically removed or you will get gang green and it will kill you...do not play around with this. Anytime you have a pin hole leak in a hose or connection this is under high pressure and never - ever put your hand down there.,

Brin.. check out the picture in this article ... a have a 5 minute video of this and it is VERY GRAPHIC, i use it as part of my bucket truck operators training ... just FYI for people working on hydraulics... NEVER grab an hydraulic piece thats pressurized and leaking.... CAUTION VERY GRAPHIC Jim Hydraulic Oil Injection Accident Try that...Jim

Neither one of those links work for me.

Only thing I see is the eek.gif thingy

WOW!:) this site is excellent and all of you are awesome people for lending your assistance. I think my neighbor qualifies for hydraulic expert. He built his own backhoe attachment from parts and things he fabbed himself. Plus he used to own a heavy equipment shop that specialized in modifying equipment for logging use. I'll get him to have a look.

Thanks for your concerns and advice about the dangers of the fluid. I don't think my skin was penetrated. I was off to the side but when these things go, BOOM!! SPRAY EVERYWHERE!!

Akkamaan, the hose looks like a poor crimp; it pulled clean out of the fitting. I didn't examine closely, but it looks a little frayed on the edge, otherwise good.

I have an old manual. i have not reviewed the section on hydraulics. In general, manuals written for 1962 seem to assume you already know a lot, and lack descriptions for dummies! I had another issue with high idle speed and not being able to knock it down. It had very little info, and pointed to the governor. Also had half a sentence about checking linkage, but gave no info on how to do it, or how to adjust linkage rods, etc.. Luckily i got it all figured out and it turned out to be a siezed pivot bracket where 2 different linkages connect. I knowif I was telling someone how to fix or troubleshoot, I would have given them a lot more i nfo than that manual gave me.

I'll try to get some pics here in the next couple of days. Got a few things to do today before Superbowl!!

Mike 058, who knows....my problem could be similar to yours, as my pump has been replaced and is apparently slightly different.

What was the hose connected to before it burst? How about a picture of the accident. Was there a QD on the end of the hose. Does the valve after the pump have a PRV. Was the hose connected correctly? I have had metal fittings just burst.

Hydraulic Oil Injection Accident
about half way down is a link to the picture...Jim

That is the same picture that I post about hyd accidents. It has been on here many times.

The story is that this was caused by a hyd hose bursting at the edge of a fitting, The guy was using a hyd hand tool, could have been a hyd impact wrench. The reason it looks so bad is that they had to remove extra meat to get to and remove the hyd fluid contaminated flesh . He almost his arm in the process, but I think they saved it. You can see the hole right at the wrist line, which would be where the hose and fitting were, with a hand griping a tool.

Most older tractors had pipe frame loaders with single acting cyl.these tend to be hacked I have seen greshen valves with no pressure reliefs on them.
Did the 3pt pick up ok before with out blowing any oil and did it relieve?
If I remember there is a plug on the side or front of the rockshaft housing 3/4 up and that is your oil level check. does this unit have loader mounted valve or are they using rear remotes to operate loader?
