Same here, two calves a year on pasture/hay and we will raise about 250 meat chickens. Up to 99 egg laying chickens and we rarely have eggs more than 2 days old, people just love the free range eggs and don't mind paying $4 per dz for them. Our meat birds are in big demand, not cheaper than the stores but clearly taste better, sell them for $4 per pound. All our animals have nice housing, well fed and will only have one bad day here.![]()
My doctor said cut back on the beef
This year I'll be getting my pig fully grown and vacuum sealed, but still with a lot less junk than what you buy in the store; and after losing my entire flock of 32 chicks last week, I'll be buying chickens from the same grower.
One thing I'm sure you've noticed about those fresh eggs; you have to let them age for a couple weeks before hardcooking them or else they don't like to peel. (I like to keep a few in the fridge for a quick breakfast)
