It seems to me that some people are intellectually curious, others absolutely not.
This means some people ask questions and seek out answers, others don't put in the effort.
Some are as "dumb as posts" as my grandmother used to say.
In high school a gal caught my eye. Flawless skin, great body, curvy, always smiling, great dresser. One date exposed a vapid mind incapable of content based discussion.
Been this way for years, likely always but I can't vouch for that, not having been around for always.
Certainly, people love to make things seem more simple, or worse than they are.
In these posts we see bountiful examples of people avowing to know exactly what others think, or are being taught.
Logical fallacy abounds in these posts, citing a single example then proclaiming this has universal applicability and truth.
Comment...I do find it appalling that the EPA is unknown to a water quality pollster yet see how a "dummy" could be hired to do the poll.
I'm astounded to be assured that, nationwide, schools have a common conspiratorial goal of easy population control...Baltimore didn't get the memo!
I am heartened that the OP does realize knowledge/awareness is along a "bell" curve...and makes his point by referencing the median point of the curve, thus implicitly referencing his broad experience with the population being discussed.
Fundamentally, I think that the "nut falls close to the tree". Smart, work focused, educated parents aware of current events typically provide the enriched home life which produces smart productive kids. Schools can provide only so much enrichment/education beyond the foundation provided by home/family.
large populations produce a bell curve and modern communications bring those on the high/smart end of the curve into more frequent contact with those who find themselves at the lower/uninformed part of the curve.
Example...On the news right now is a story about women escaping oppression in Niger by hiding inside a truck load of hay bales. A 15 year old girl says she wants to become a doctor yet realizes she is uneducated, not even knowing the alphabet. May she find the means and strength to realize a large part of her aspirations!
