After un-clogging the vent tube the hydraulic fluid level is not what it used to be. When the tube was clogged the level showed to be at the proper level, while now it barely registers on the dip stick.

How does one go about properly measuring the level? Does the fluid need to be hot? Is it measured with the tractor running or off?

Also, even though the oil looks clean I'd like to replace it or should I add to it? What's the correct fluid and are there any filters/strainers that need to be replaced/washed off? If so where are they located?

Thank you for your help,

The strainer is in the transmission, remove, clean & replace. Hydraulic oil that meets JD 303 Specifications.

Drain fluid, remove round screen, I believe it's in the left lower side of the transmission, refill with JD 303 equivalent, got mine at Tractor Supply, will need to buy 5 gal.

Thanks guys.

So, I've recently noticed an oil leak on the right wheel, as one seats on the tractor. I'd guess it's the same hydraulic fluid that keeps the wheel bearings oiled? If so, it would make sense as to why the transmission oil is a little low. BTW, what's the correct front/rear tire pressure? I just won on ebay an operation, and a maintenance manual so I won't be pestering you guys much longer with my silly questions....or maybe I will :)

Eddie, sorry I didn't stop by Saturday but I'm nursing a nasty shoulder injury. Hopefuly this weekend, if my health recovers, and if your bush hog is still available.

It's still here. Give me yell and come on by and I'll show you where the screen is on my 1700. Give you an idea what to look for.

Hope you get to feeling better.

The transmission oil will have nothing to do with a right front wheel leak. They're not connected at all on a YM2000

Maybe I missed something, I don't see where he was talking about a front wheel leaking:confused:

It still don't say front. I think he's talking about a rear wheel seal leaking.
