I'd like to paint my elderly Yanmar. (Actually it was built a couple of years after the last YM2000 Japanese equivalent; it just looks worse than most 2000's.)

Like Jagmandave did, it wouldn't be too much trouble to take the sheet metal in and have that part done professionally.

But every time I look at how much work it would take to prep the loader (and its subframe) for painting, I say not now - maybe someday.

California, I've been wanting you to paint that loader of yours for several years, now;) .

I'd like to paint my new fx28 but I don't want to loose all the original stickers. this thing has a million of them. any good ideas?

What usually happens...even if you sand, scuff carefully all around the original decals and then use fine-line tape, masking very carefully....It looks like a very nice paint job with old, ugly decals on it :).

I agree with Norm....take pictures, remove and replace with new English transfers after the painting is done. It looks sooooo much better.

Guys, I finally had the time last weekend to replace the rear seal and found it to be a very-very easy remove/install process on my YM 2000. Upon completion I put the tractor to the test and the rear wheel is now leak free. And since it was warm last weekend finally my new temperature gauge registered above minimal temps, I believe I'm fortunate that my YM runs so cool.

So, it appears that all the repairs I've performed, plus greasing all available grease fittings, have proven problem free so my last step will be to replace the hydraulic fluid sometime in the near future...and of course paint my YM so as to give it a fresh look in life. Any suggestions as what's the most practical way of painting the tractor at home?

Thanks,
gcp

Since it's a lot of small pieces, you can do a "good enough" job with rattle cans. Order paint and decals from Hoye.

We also have the spray cans, and we have model specific (i.e., "YANMAR YM2210") hood decals for many YM models.

Wayne, does that "many YM models" include the YM2220D? If so, what percentage of my firstborne will you want?

No it doesn't.....not yet anyway. About 18-20 models so far. If it did we would want less than $25 for the set--2 hood decals, one for each side.

I have 3 spray cans at the property which I plan to use on my YM2000 (the local dealer who does a lot of tractor painting said 3 cans will be plenty to get the job done). And if my work doesn't turn out to my satisfaction I may just take the sheet metal apart in the winter time and take it to him for a complete revamp.

This weekend I plan to install the 2” receiver a forumite sent me so I can use my tractor for front end towing, and to mount when needed the carrying platform I recently purchased. Things are falling into place with my new workhorse, pics to follow.

When painting with spray cans, make sure you are spraying a vertical surface. Since cans will only spray upright, if you attempt to paint a horizontal surface the paint will dry before it hits and lose the shine.
