On the way in or out?

I didn't know who the 1 st. was. When I was in the market for a tractor , all I heard was, what Mr. W had done as far as getting yanmars' into the U.S. I sure hope they aren't on their way out as I own 1 , and there is alot of people (dealers) that have alot invested in parts & equip.

Wayne, Ernie, Buck etc,

Are all presently imported Yanmars showing ZN labels?

What's the current status of Yanmar Corp's attempt to prohibit use of their name? Does it apply to importing or just marketing?

The most significant factor in the volume of Yanmars being imported was the US ITC ban on the import of Kubotas under 50 hp (or some similar number). Yanmar was the next choice, and we are happy with that. We believe the Yanmar is a better designed, more user-friendly machine. With that said, virtually all the Japanese compacts seem to be well made machines. Bottom line is that Yanmar is the only one of those brands for which there is development of aftermarket parts on a significant scale. There will be parts availability for most of the common Yanmar grey models for a long, long time, as well as ROPS, safety-start switches. In the near future we expect to be retro-fitting all models we sell with a safety start switch, as well as ROPS for those models for which one is available. Units we sell already have warning labels in English(and have for a long time), and we make an English language operator manual available to the customer (eventually we may build this into the price and simply include it).

So what about some of the other models? Hinomoto, Iseki, Shibaura, etc. Are they going to build on the success of Yanmar, or are they going to be displaced by it?

Those aren't models...they're brands, and if you read my posts you'll see the answer. No one who wants a return on their investment is going to pay to have parts made when there are not enough units out there to justify it. There are probaly no models of the other brands in the market in the same numbers as are the top 10-12 models of Yanmars. I am certainly not aware of anyone gearing up to make parts for the other brands, and if I had several hundred K in unused capital, I wouldn't invest it that way.

Who is Mr. W and what did he do to get Yanmars to the US market?

Hi All,

Actually I have a couple of questions here to, if I may.

Have the Chinese tractors and their low prices had any impact in Grey Market sales or is it a different market ?

Will the emissions changes for 2006 have any impact on the importability or sale of Grey Market tractors in the U.S. ?

Thanks for any information you can provide.

Tom

Not trying to start anything here, but I look at both tractors & thought (even though used) the quality of the yanmar was better than the chinese brand. The yanmar has been time tested & is still around after 20 or so years.Only time will tell if the chinese tractors will still be going after that many years. As far as emissions, I think that only applies to new tractors being sold.

Hi,

Don't think anyone is trying to start anything here.
I certainly wasn't.

I was just kind of curious if the Chinese tractors have had much of an impact on Grey Market Sales. After all, they start at around $4k for new ones.

Didn't realize that the emissions issues only related to new. Kind of thought that they would relate to anything being brought into the country ( new or used ) and them having to meet standards.

Anyways, thanks for the thoughts.
