I would like some info on YM195. I can buy one for $4500 w/ snowblower and belly mower (both 60"). Since I'm new to Yanmar, is this a 1970's model? Can parts be easily found? Is this a good price?

Thanks for any info provided.

check everything carefully, you can't believe some of the parts prices ( I paid $275 for brake shoes...)

Is it a D (Four wheel drive) That puts 40% more power on the ground... Mine wuoldn't cut it without it

How many hours?

As far as parts, many JD dealers can get them, although my local one just quit. Many JD parts may interchange such as engine componants. Yanmar builds JD small diesels and some small tractors...

Yanmars are great tractors

asking lots of ?s being a new owner. if i'm only going to use it to mow and spread manure and occasionally snowblow, is 4wd critical?

Rocky, which model did you buy brakes for? On my US models the parts are about half that price. The YM195 is a US model.
I hardly ever buy parts from the JD dealer because most parts aren't interchangeable and also because on the few that are interchaneable the JD shop wants twice what the Yanmar dealers are selling OEM parts for.
I'd say that the price is decent. It is always better to have 4wd if you can get it, and the 4wd resell quickly. If you have a ground driven mower then I guess that 4wd would help you mow....but every belly mower that I've seen is PTO driven and so 4wd shouldn't be a factor unless you are in deep swamp grass. For snow blowing it all depends on your terrain. If the land is fairly flat then chains and some wheel weights will get you by fine....after all, the 195 is fairly heavy for its size and has a locking differential. If you have icy hills to climb and deep snow then best go for 4wd.
About the lime-green YM195 and YM195D.... they were real basic tractors and I don't believe that they ever had a service bulletin issued on them for anything. There weren't a lot of them sold, because they were offered at a time when Yanmar was just entering the US market and just before the new red-painted Yanmars were to be offered....which had many more modern features. Nothing wrong with the YM195, its just dated. As far as I know, US Yanmar still carries the parts. Yanmar tends to carry parts for everything forever

I bought them for my 186D If I were doing it over, I'd have the old ones reshoed at a brake shoe shop. My local Deere dealer also sold Yanmar parts, I price checked them all over, and they were competetive. Actually I am glad that I was able to even get the parts I needed for a nearly 30 year old tractor, that seems to be farly rare. I seldom see any info on mine, and there are only three listed as being owned by members here.

Every replacement part I have bought has been great quality, I am sure that this machine will live on.

I have lost my parts source, can you recommens one?

The 2001 Intertec used tractor price guide shows the 195 offered in '78 -'80. The 195 has a 2 cylinder 19 hp engine. It puts out around 15 hp to the PTO. The 195 weighs about 1655 lbs. The guide lists the used the price between $1600 - $2600. That may be a little low although maybe you can use it as a bargaining point. Prices vary widely from region to region. The mower and snowblower add to the value maybe $1000-$1500.

Tractor parts are expensive. Check on Kubota parts prices if you really want to see your wallet bleed./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif With any luck you won't be buying a lot of parts. Don't count on the JD connection for parts. It is pretty hard to work unless you have a very nice JD parts guy. Lots easier to mail order genuine Yanmar parts from the Yanmar dealers listed in the dealer list thread.

Not every Yanmar tractor dealer is a Yanmar parts dealer or wants to be. Some tractor dealers are really short on time, and would prefer not to chase parts at all. I can understand this as I always seem to be running from my business to kids baseball practise, kids swim team, health club, church etc. !

Its a good idea to try and build a relationship with a parts dealer, so when you need parts they can go to bat for you. Try and find a dealer that does not mind talking parts for tractors they did not sell. You can also call Leonard Shaeffer because he seems to specialize in parts and will get it for you if its available.
