One too many snowstorms for the 1510

Good call Winston, it does appear to be a now-spline less shaft. I'll see about taking the pressure plate off tomorrow.

Looks like the shaft that comes out of the front of the tranny....is that shaft available ??

I've never known anyone to use an over run clutch on anything other than a mower..A slip clutch for a tiller maybe
Ayep, I can see using one on a bush hog or perhaps a woodchipper, but not so much for a tiller, flail mower or snowblower.

is that overrun clutch the same as a PTO slip clutch?

No, an overrun clutch let's the implement (such as a rotary mower) on the PTO keep spinning and wind down when you turn off the PTO.
Otherwise (on some tractors such as the 8N, 9N and this model), when you hit the clutch, the PTO keeps spinning and will drive the wheels (which can push you into a problem if you hit the clutch to stop the tractor from going forward and running something over).
Usually, its a ratcheting mechanism so it doesn't ratchet when the PTO is powering it, but it will ratchet when it spins down.

Thanks Aaron
most (if not all) newer tractors have a way of doing the same thing.. The newer tractors are internal..where some older ones require 1 external

Right, and it's at least not available on Hoye's site. Will have to call some places.

Is that section in the clutch plate?

Right, the rubbed-down part of the shaft should engage the center of the clutch plate.

I believe we are looking at @23 here. CLUTCH: Yanmar Tractor Parts

That's the one. Now I just need to find a replacement shaft. Replacement clutch plates don't seem to be a problem.

When I got this tractor (10 years ago), the guy I got it from had his local Deere dealer replace something in the clutch area. I have to say the metal on the pressure plate looks a lot newer than the flywheel, so I assume that was replaced. The clutch plate then seems likely to have been replaced as well. Looks like the replacement didn't agree well with the shaft though.
