Online MIG flux welding calculator and 3/16" steel

I can understand that in normal welding, but I've been skeptical about it with some things... For years I ran the cheapie Flux 100 from Harbor Freight, two voltage settings but a knob for wire speed, I got used to getting it to work for me but it took some goofy settings... that might not be a good example because those things on A/C shouldn't even work...

Anywho, what I was getting at, if I'm say scabbing a rusty muffler back together, any normal settings just melt through so my go to is turn the voltage down and wire speed up so it welds colder, is it just outside some curve that now there's not enough amps to melt right but it still sticks? Those welds aren't structural obviously, but on my $250 4 wheeler I'm not spending $200 on a new muffler...

For the most part I just go with the settings on the door of the welder for my Titanium, it's usually a good starting point...
