Since no one has stated the obvious, SNAKES!, I carry on the tractor because we got snakes down here in Florida that will carry your butt off.

Weapon of choice for this task is a single shot 410 Harrison and Richardson.

MrC.

Here in Arkansas it is illegal to kill any snake. I carry a 12 gauge pump shotgun on a rack in my RTV900 to protect me from the mosquitoes should I see one slithering around.

I still say if you're worried about being mugged or having an issue with some thug on your own property, you're either paranoid or living in a bad place.

For whatever reason person wants to carry while operating their tractor...well, it's their business and you've no right to criticize.
Me...I carry a .38 or something similar for what ever eventuality may arise. Others may carry for for defense against those druggies who grow pot in their fields (at one time, pretty frequent situation in some southern states). Then, there are animals...
Numerous reasons...

It's legal if the snake poses an imminent threat to a person or pet or livestock. A copperhead in the barn can be terminated with extreme prejudice. Of course, I've seen people kill rat snakes and corn snakes and even garter snakes, which is silly in any case. (I was canoeing down the White River one summer day, and saw more snakes in the trees-assuming rat snakes, maybe some mocs-than I'd ever seen in the wild anywhere!)

Sat here and read in its entirety, some I've agreed with, others, burst out laughing, and others I wonder about...
Until I demonstrate I'm not responsible enough to carry, use, and own weapons on my rural acreage...none of anyone's business what and how I do it.
Even if it's on a john deere...
What galls me is, people should embrace our God given rights, even if you don't like them, if one gets removed more to follow. In this state we are honored to have Andrew Cuomo as judge, jury, and purveyor of Rights at 02:30am gets huge gun restriction laws passed with the help of his cronies. Now, I think I will start the process of pistol permit, should have done it 20 years ago. Up to this point judges, (depending on party affiliation) (hint, hint) discern whether a citizen should be given a permit. I'm not talking about concealed, just a plain pistol permit here in upstate New York in Washinton County. But, to be clear, (remember who used to peach those words) good greif...
I have enjoyed sitting with all of you, very enlightening subject.
And as Bob Grant used to say...
Straight Ahead...!

Living at the end of the street isn't the problem, if bad people wander in, it's not a good place.

Most delivery drivers will be quick to admit a mistake and choose to exit private property pretty quickly so they don't catch **** from the boss when they get back. Most are simply good working folk trying to do their job.

Some properly placed cameras at the turning points to nab plate numbers followed by calls to the law should clear up the occasional drunk damage. If the cops won't tend to it; it's not a good place.

Hopped up druggies would be a sure sign it's time to move. The good people and law enforcement have failed that community.

When I have a car come to my driveway, I go out to greet them and provide any assistance I can. Most people who end up someplace they do not seem to belong are simply unaware of the exact location of their destination. Many also drive away before I can find out why they stopped, but that doesn't make them suspicious.

None of the above is really any sort of 'silver bullet' reason for or against carrying. There really is no one situation or scenario that defines "the reason to carry". There really is only one reason to carry; it is the one tool you can't put a project on hold to go retrieve. It is the one tool that when it is needed, it is generally needed immediately. Everyone that can legally carry, should carry anytime they're legally allowed.

I still say if you're worried about being mugged or having an issue with some thug on your own property, you're either paranoid or living in a bad place. The fix to the situation is something much broader than just strapping up and waiting on the problem to present itself. Move away or fix it, doing nothing but waiting on it to arrive at your doorstep is akin to enabling the problem to grow.
I learned a long time ago not to rely on police for anything. Tell you what, if you buy my property, buy me my new property, pay my wages until I retire..............I'll move anywhere you can guarantee there will be no bad people come onto my property. Until then, maybe you can go to each poster's (in this thread) property and "fix" their problems. Bad stuff happens to good people. Nobody is paranoid here. But it seems that you have a fixation on calling people that carry on their tractor paranoid.

Which makes no sense when you stated above................. Everyone that can legally carry, should carry anytime they're legally allowed.

Sysop apparently never lived in or around Chicago? Are all these people to just decide they live in A bad place?

What boggles my mind when people say here there and everywhere, we'll this doesn't happen to me so it's not a problem, but my thinking is, if it happened to someone else, it could happen to me.

So far carrying a gun on a tractor is not a need, just a want, and so far here gangs and bad people are not a concern. It's the half dozen stories I hear and read about in my state, other states, every year, about a rabid fox, raccoon etc. attacking someone, in the woods on the street, and now they have to go through a series of rabies shots, all because no firearm, from what I've read rabies can be serious.

I like the old saying, "better to have something and not need it than need it and not have it"........
