Open carry / firearm handy

My normal carry whenever I am on a tractor is one of my .357 or .44 spcl revolvers, a leatherman a streamlight flashlight a 3-4" lock blade pocket knife. All of but the pocket knife ride on a utility belt. I have dispatched wounded or car hit deer, coyotes and a variety of 4 legged vermin, euthanized horses, killed feral dogs I have found the pistol to be more useful, in general, than putting a tractor tire on them. The presence of a pistol has dissuaded a number of trespassers from persisting in the trespass or poaching endeavors and to leave. Certain times of year, when the birds are around I will add a shotgun to the mix to honor the point of a bird dog.

open carry vs CC always a hot topic.
Some that those that oc, do so to show off. Some say those that cc do so, because they aren't man enough oc.
I exercise both of my rights. Some times oc sometimes cc. Just depends on how I feel that day.
I really couldn't care less about what people think of me for exercising my 2 amendment right to oc, or cc

If I were in a position of authority/responsibility involving the police, I would require frequent training/range visits, etc. Seems this would not only be valuable to the officers but also for litigation protection.

Too expensive for many. We use to train every three months, two passes with your primary and secondary weapon on the range and tactical with the tactical constantly changing for a total of 164 rounds each gun. We also drew our own ammo out of the trailer and could do some free form training after qualification. My son now has my old job and he goes to the range every six months, only one pass and if your primary gun is a G23 and secondary is a G27, you qualify with gun, your good to go on the second. Trainers now count out the rounds so no one goes home with an extra round or two. Also you cannot stay after qualification to get in more time even if you use your own ammo. Changes are coming, but no one knows what they are.

When I was active in USPSA and IDPA, we often had police officers from various dept's shoot with us. As we typically shot matches from at least one per week to sometimes 2 per week, these guys got in a heck of lot of practice. And it showed as they were very good shots. Back then were were shooting around 20,000 rounds annually including the practice we did between matches. A fair amount of it was at my range at my home in Willard.

Those officers that shot with us and shot a lot often tried to get brother officers to join us, but often they would come once and quit. When they saw how pitiful their shooting skills were compared to a bunch of civilians, many were embarrassed to show up again. So instead of staying with it and getting better they decided to go away. Of course the commitment in money and time may have had something to do with it.

I can guarantee that qualifying annually, which is all some departments require will not make you into the shooter you need to be when the bad stuff happens. When I was with the GCSD which required an annual qualification at the time, I used to think I was a pretty good pistolero. I had a rude awakening when I started to compete many years later. The only way to get good is to practice, and competition is a good way. You learn from others, and the pressure of competition helps in your improvement.

When the RO asks "shooter ready?" "Standby!". Then it is all up to you to either perform or fail. And when the timer is read, and the hits and misses counted, with the results going up on the "wailing wall", then is when you wished you had put in the practice!

I hope you guys realize you are blessed, here in Canada your firearm, have to be trigger locked and in locked storage, we have permits to transport to the range and the storage is trigger locked and in a locked container, trunk of car etc, you have to belong to a gun range to get the permit, other wise you have a permit to "collect" and storage is the same, but you can't just take your pistol and shoot in the back yard. I find it hard to believe that we have been brain washed into believing we can't even defend our family or selves, I don't want to give anyone ideas, but it looks like the crooks wrote our laws and have very little worry about anyone stopping them. I pray that the good Lord keeps us safe, God bless all.

Oh we do, I have a pistol range in my back yard and a 300 yd. range four miles away on another farm. I loan deer rifles to our grand kids and I have recently started giving my collection to my kids. No licensing, paperwork etc. I don't shoot much anymore, but love the ability do so.

Governments do not ban guns to keep people safe. They say that to get people to accept the ban. Governments ban guns to keep the people from being able to rebel.

We do. We enjoy our hard won freedoms, and I intend to keep them. It took a long time for us to get back our freedom to carry in my state, but as we have thrown out those that denied us our freedoms, and we are doing well here now.

I find that abhorrent. Liberty without our gun rights is nonexistent...

When some people use the word Liberty they seem to be doing their best to give it a bad connotation. Just like some people seem to be trying to give the 2A a bad image to the general public by their exercise thereof.
