Has anyone here built open top culverts to drain water from your gravel road?

How effective are the culverts and how did you build them?

Thanks
Steve

Steve, if you send me a PM with your e-mail, I'll send you an article about them (and how to build them) from the Jan / Feb NY Forest Owner magazine. I have not built any of these, but can vouch for their effectiveness. They have to be maintained in order to function properly, which in part depends on your road surface and the sediment supply. Also, I suggest armouring the outlets--water flowing out of these things can be moving with relatively high velocity/energy. Good luck!

I went to Google and did a search on open top culverts and found quite a bit of information on them. I have a couple of places on my property where I am going to give them a try. Sounds like a great idea in areas where a standard culvert won't do what is needed.
