Operating PTO implement out of seat?

Correct, most models will allow use of PTO without operator as long as the seat is tipped up. On my Bx2230, I can also fasten the seatbelt, which depresses the operator presence switchand allows PTO operation when off the tractor. This is useful when post hole digging but you have to be careful.

I don't understand the problem.
When I use my PTO chipper, I set the parking brake, put the tractor tranny into N, climb out, raise the seat forward so it rests on the steering wheel, raise the throttle, slowly engage the PTO while standing beside the tractor, then run the RPM's up to 540. The seat must be raised up and rest on the steering wheel to disengage all sensor switches. If you just climb out and leave the seat in its normal position the PTO will not engage.

Yes Sir, you are correct that this is the way it's supposed to work. Unfortunately it doesn't - it kills the engine when I engage the PTO. I suspect that one of the sensor switches has a bad connection or is defective and needs replacement. The two seat sensors are easy to get to but the others aren't as convenient (not even sure where the hydro petal one is) and I've not had time to really check them out.

I had the same problem with mine until I realized that the lever that pushes in the sensor when you lift the seat wasn't depressing that button. I took off the lever bent it so that it applied more Force to the button, reattached it, works great now. Thanks for all the information!!
