I am an insurance agent but have not sold auto insurance in almost 8 years and never Progressive. Normally you are better off to have auto and home insurance with same company. If you own a home in some states your homeowner will sooner or later drop you if they do not have your auto insurance. Be sure if you have home-owner's they know you do when pricing the auto for each product normally causes a credit on the other. For those in Coastal States I KNOW I would use one company for Home and Auto due to the risk of Hurricanes create in the insurance world.
My impression of Progressive is they play hard ball with shops and agents. My friends who sell it tell me it is like not by choice but only for low rates. They don't like them. Progressive plays many games not saying others may not but they do what they can to have you buy direct over the INTERNET and that will be your lowest price. For me any price savings for such to support the owner who does give millions to organizations that are as some others have said are anti American is not worth it. (all that has been said about the owner is true from what I have read about him). Would be akin to working for GM and driving a Korean made car.
