Well it looks like I've decided on a L3940 with Dec 07 prices. Now to work out the details.

L3940, Cab, HST, 724 loader w/ heavy duty roundback bucket and SS disconnect, Front auxillary with dual rear auxillary hydraulics. $30,543 plus taxes etc...

How does that sound?

I think this will be the best all around for me. I can still pull my father's 6' squealer, lift hay bales and still mow with a 84" Woods RFM.

Edit: On second thought.. and on the phone with the dealer.. I can do a L4240 with the same config for only 1,700 more... shesssh.. decisions decisions... I think the 4240 now.. haha

Second edit..

I think it would be a better idea to buy "Tractor and loader" now and skimp on the add-ons. I can always add them later. But it'll be hard to add more tractor/loader later w/o trading up.. haha

I think there may be better deals. Here's the rundown on my shopping.

4240 with 854 loader-$24000
4740 with 854 loader-$26200
4740 Cab with loader-$30949
5240 with loader-$27459
5240 cab with loader-$32417
5740 with loader-$28972
5740 cab with 854 quick attach loader, 1 set rear remotes, 3rd function valve, rear work lights and my choice or R1 or R4 tires-$35000

One set rear remotes-$800
Kubota 3rd function valve-$700

These are all current Louisiana prices. If I were you, I would skip the round back bucket (you will probably not benefit from it over the regular bucket) and the second set of remotes (adding remotes is relatively easy after the first one is installed) and put that money toward the 4240.

Well just comparing apples to apples my prices..
3940 Cab with 724 loader $28,068
4240 Cab with 854 loader $29,757

Both with SS QA and heavy duty roundback.

I think they fall in line, No.

I've called other Kubota dealerships, but no one has these in stock and the prices quoted are much higher, by atleast 3K. Found any around your end? Where have you been shopping?

I want the heavier bucket, one for the size, two because I want a grapple added on, and three, I've got several thousand tons of concrete to move, I'm not exagerating!!

BTW these are in New Iberia.

You are correct. I was miscalculating the options. You may negotiate to have some of the cheaper options such as rear lights, touch-up paint, etc, thrown in. I specifically looked for pre "-1" tractors, so all of those quotes are lower than a newer tractor of the same model.

If you are moving that much concrete you will be glad to have the larger (854) loader. The heavy duty bucket weighs about 200# more than the regular bucket and that will take away from your loader capacity. Get the 4240 with 854 loader, you won't regret it. By the way, my pricing is in Hammond/Covington, LA and Brookhaven, MS.

I paid $16800 for a L3130 and LA 513 loader in 2003. I later added a WR Long valve and rear remotes for another $1500. I was going to trade my tractor with 220 hours and the best I could get on trade was $11,300. I sold it myself for a good deal more, but it was still a loss. The moral of my story is buy as much tractor you can afford the first time because it's costly to trade up.

That seems to be a trent here on TBN so I'm heeding advice and jumping here!!

Thanks for the other tips, I guess I need to finalize the deal soon before the wife gets second thoughts!!! It does help that I got a raise Monday out of the blue!!! A little more $$ helps get the larger tractor.
