Bob, if you were to put the New Holland & bucket on 4x4's or 6x6's, what ever it would take to be at the same height of your Kubota, how many feet longer do you think that the New Holland's visibility would be? In other words, if the tractors were the same outside dimensions, just had different designs, how much of an advantage would the sloped hood have? Again I agree that the sloped hood makes a big difference, I'm just wondering how big of a difference? I know that I would not want to look out over my hood if it were not sloped. I have a hard enough time as it is.;)

Here are the 2 tractors again. You can see they are on a slight slope. So I drew 2 parallel lines. One line is right along the top of the buckets, that establishes the slope. The other line is exactly parallel to the first line on the same slope, and is placed at the top of the rear of the hood of the Kubota, you can see it is almost in the same position on the New Holland so the hood height at the rear is almost identical. Further, you can see above it that the steering wheel on the Kubota is actually higher than the wheel on the New Holland so it seems like the seating position on the Kubota might actually be a little higher (which should give the Kubota a slight advantage). The front of each of the hoods is very different as the Kubota hood is flat and that is one of the main reasons the forward view is blocked. But I don't think that there is any reason to try to artifically raise the NH when the NH and the Kubota hoods start at virutally the same elevation.

Thoughts?

Again, it is hard to compare tractors, but this is the best I can do for now. And no photo comparison will ever be perfect, but this is the best I can do.

Bob, without the lines that you have drawn, the tractors looked about 4" different in height to me. But I guess that they are closer than that. Maybe sometime when I have some spare time I will look at my local Kubota - New Holland dealership to see if I can find 2 tractors of the same HP and size and make a comparison. That might be interesting with the new Kubota designs.

Thanks for your responses

Digging around, I found one last photo that shows just how close these tractors are in overall size. Again you can see in this photo that the hood heights are nearly the same. What is different is from the steering wheel back to the rear of the tractor because the Kubota has a larger more comfortable operators platform. The platform on the Kubota is deeper and wider.

I should point out the NH bucket is 21" tall and 24" deep. The Kubota bucket is 22" tall and 20" deep (not including the bucket teeth).

Throwing my informal observation/experience into this mix -- I had a Kubota B7100 with FEL. I have a Case DX29 with LA114 loader with QA bucket. Two different sizes, made about 25 years apart.

On the Case, the distance from the back of the bucket sitting level on the ground to the center of the front axle is about the same as the wheelbase of the tractor. On the Kubota, it was about 2/3 the wheelbase. Either one has enough loader strength to lift the rears off the ground. The Kubota has loaded tires and about 120 lb on the rear hitch. The Case has 260 lb of wheel weights and about 900 on the hitch.

I can see the top of the bucket better with the Case, but could place the bottom more precisely with the Kubota. The bottom of the Case bucket is forward of the top of that bucket by at least 6 inches. The 'bota bucket was about straight down from the top to the bottom when sitting flat on the ground.

Bucket design also enters into the situation. The non-QA bucket on the Case has a different profile than the QA one. It also has a different volumetric capacity even though both are 60" buckets.

Do skidsteers like Harv's little one armed bandit count in this discussion? I'm thinking it could work circles around either of these machines in loader work, visibility is great as far as bucket placement and close in work. Of course there are things the tractors can do that it can't I suppose, like plowing and stuff of the farming nature, but if this is purely about loaders and visibility then let's add it to the mix.
