Update. I found an 04 Chevy 2500HD and went with it. Crew cab, 4x4, loaded with 100K on it. It has the 6.0 and was obviously never worked hard, just driven so I brought it home from Nashville Friday.

You won't have a lot of friends here when you talk about owning a GM truck, but I hope you have good luck with it.

Congrats on the new truck! The 2500HD trucks are a big step up in component size from the 1500HD and regular 2500 series. You'll be very pleased with the truck. Only complaint I've heard is that they get low fuel mileage. But its to be expected on the heavier trucks.

the people who throw a tantrum about any certain brand of vehicle are usually too opinionated to offer much useful information anyways. you probably aren't missing too much by not having them like your ride.

i've owned a bunch of different vehicles - lately most have been gm (though i liked my preferred brand of car less after gm bought them). overall i've had generally good luck with gm trucks over the years, but i currently own a 2001 gm 3500 dump with a diesel. when it works, it works great. but when it doesn't work (which is too high of a percentage of the time) it costs a fortune to get back into running condition. i suspect a lot of my issues may be due to misuse by previous operators, and not necessarily the vehicle or manufacturer's fault.

i've got an uncle who used to be a die hard ford man. over the years he had some great working tough trucks, and he's also had a total lemon that never seemed to run right. you win some, you lose some. there's no perfect bulletproof brand or model. if there was, there wouldn't be countless brands and models of vehicles out there - the rest would be out of business. nobody likes it when they have bad luck with a vehicle, but it happens with every brand.

Thanks everyone. I'm not really loyal to any brand. I've had all of the big three and most all were good. At least one of every brand has had problems. Most bullet proof was probably a 91 Toyota 4x4, but it got into a tussle with a concrete culvert in a ditch I drove into and the culvert won :laughing:. I like this one and if it breaks, I'll fix it. Too many other things more improtant to me to get bent out of shape about a truck. I know the rule is "no pics and it didn't happen" but I dont know how to post one so you'll just have to take my word for it.

I had a 86 Toyota 4x4 and it was a good one also till the body started rusting. Had the 22R engine and a 5 speed. 160,000 miles when I traded it and only in the shop twice. Once for a clutch and once for a tune up with new cap, plugs, rotor, wires, ect. It was such a good truck and pulled great for a 4 cylinder. Only went though 3 sets of tires and 2 sets of front brakes and 1 set of rears. Pulled a 3,500# boat with it every weekend and loaded the bed beyond belief other times. Once hauled home 20 bags of Sac Crete in it. Also brought home a Hot Tub in it.
