I must not have TS then, all that is where the bulb should be is a stud.

So is there any way to warm the glow plugs before attempting to start? The only diesel experience is humvees and generators from my Army days.

That tractor prolly did not come with Thermostart, it supposedly was an option. There are no glowpugs or starting aids other than the compression release if you dont have the TS thing mounted in the intake which is a heater element, similar to a glow plug. I have started mine in the low 30's with no assistance other than spinning over and the 2 failed attemts it took.

That is not a VN machine its orriginal and fairly good shape, not great but good, i would not be afraid of it. That tranny fluid looks like some water is in it, not really a big deal but id get it out ASAP if u buy.

Thanks, I am taking it slow and waiting for manuals to show up (well that's my excuse, truth is I am beat after 10hr Mid shifts and just want to sleep). But I hope to get the fluids taken care of after work this morning. What tranny fluid is recommended and what weight oil for Georgia? Also Is it possible/likely I would be able to source the oil/fuel filters locally? If so what are the part numbers?

Sorry for so many questions.

Hopefully in return I can amuse you guys with my customization antics after I get this thing up and running. (I built several get er done kind of implements for my old Toro rider)

I saw the rad bottle as well an like it!

You can get filters for oil and fuel from carquest or nappa. They can look them up if you tell them its a ym240 yanmar (the american version of the ym2000, we are talking about that one right?) The hydro fluid is universal tractor transmission/hydraulic fluid. We all use the JD 303 spec, which anything labled universal tractor hydro fluid will meet. Tractor supply co has had their brand on sale for $35/5 gallon bucket recently and the Accell brand 303 for $30/5gallon. It may be regular price now but just add $5 on each price for the regular price. Id run rotella 15w-40 or the syn 5w-40 for oil.

Oil filter: Wix lists 51064 (5 just means 'Wix') for YM240, the US version of YM2000. It's a common filter for the small Japanese cars, Honda, Subaru etc, sold everywhere. I use NAPA Gold 1064. After you open the box 'Wix' is stamped on the filter.

The air filter is unique, it has to come from somebody who knows Yanmar parts. Hoye's has a soft gasket glued to the top edge for a better seal. I like that one. I also replaced the rubber gasket (sleeve) between the air filter enclosure and the manifold when I bought my tractor.
