grasshopper 618
I need some help for a simple inexpensive way to change my snowblower shaft rotation. I purchased a gravely 40 in. snowblower and mounted it on the front of my grasshopper 618 mower the mounting went very well except for a very important item ,my shaft rotates clockwise and I need the shaft to rotate counter clockwise. I would like to mount some small type of unit on the back of the snow blower . I was thinking that a set of small spur gears could possibly be implemated ,but I have no idea where to begin. I have considerable time and money invested in this project, I don't have much room to work with so I something compact. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated

Buy an impeller for the turn direction you need and cut a new outlet in the cage for it. Mount/weld the spout on the opposite side. Use the piece from the new cutout to patch the old spout outlet. Weld up the cage and grind it smooth.

I did this with a leaf blower. In my case the impeller was reversable so I just turned it around.

Oops, I guess you'd have to run the auger backwards, too, but, a different gearbox could do that...

A new holland 718 forage harvester has a gear drive to reverse the cutterhead for sharpening. if you have an ag equipment dealer close and you can find the parts cheap then it looks like it would be short enough to reverse your blower. In use you remove a drive shaft and reattach it to the idler to reverse the drum to sharpen. It's compact enough that it might just work in your case.

If you can weld I think this is the easiest way to get what you want. If you can take the auger out and spin it 180 degrees about a vertical axis, that will reverse the direction of snow movement with a given input rotation. You may have to swap ends of the auger to get the drive mechanism back on the correct end.

Do you have any pictures of the pto and how its driven for those of us unfamiliar with the grasshopper mower? If its belt driven you may have a few options.

I'm looking at the pictures of your blower, and very clearly the blower needs to spin clockwise. Did you just flip flop in your explination?
