Optimal Operating RPM

   / Optimal Operating RPM #11
I use the backhoe and the loader at between 1600 - 1900 rpm with my L3130 hst transmission. I find that if I run at faster engine speeds, the controls require too light a touch. Being a little heavy handed, at higher speeds the bh and loader move more quickly than I feel comfortable with. A few years back I hired a mini excavator and tried to run it at a faster speed than my experience and ability allowed. I took the rear wing off my Audi as a result. That was an expensive apprenticeship.

I agree with all about running RPM with what job is needed to be done. I never go above 2000PRMs unless I am mowing.
BH work is 15-1600rpms. FEL & BB work is 18-1900rpms.
This just seems to feel right to me.

dave - I have the same setup as you and run mine at 1500-1900 rpms when using backblade or FEL - too high a rpms cause me to jerk around when using the Fel - run at recommended 2600-2700 rpms when bush hogging.

I have an HST and run mine 2/3 throttle when mowing, unless the grass is deep. Seems to mow the same at this speed or WFO. Snowblowing heavy snow is almost full throttle (mine is rated for only 11 PTO hp), otherwise 1/2 throttle for everything else.
Mine doesn't have a tach either. It feels more comfortable at 2/3 throttle than full throttle.
