I am surprised Gatorboy hasn't griped about us being off topic yet.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And how many posts does a member have to make before they are considered a "sage"?

I have to say, as usual, off topic discussions are usually lively...at least in the horses forums I normally frequent.

I'm still trying to check in here, but construction has started on the new farm, so I'm pretty swamped. I have a JD and a Kubota dealership about 5 miles from the new farm, another equipment dealer, but not sure which brands. They rent Bobcats though.

I'll keep lurking and try to learn the difference between the various models. A trip to the dealerships might be in order to get a short tutorial.

Yes, you have many fine dealerships around you. Narrow down your "size" and desired "attachments", before you go looking. Even then, you'll probably size up or down when you sit on them.
Just get it in your head, what you need it to do, then want it to do. Remember that needs differ than wants....

Hy, BTW what horse forums do you frequent? Where? Care to post a link?

Off topic discussions are the BEST.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

One hour spent lurking on TBN will teach you more about tractors than a day spent at a dealership....unless the dealership sells GREEN, in which case it's about equal.

Mike/Riptides,

I post on the Chronicle of the Horse forums, an EZBoard forum (The Tack Room), rarely, UDBB, a friend has tried to get me to go to Competitive Horse, but I've only one post there, and my oldest, the Animals Forum, a dying Compuserve forum. AOL has done a fine job of killing it off, but there are a few old friends around.

UDBB http://www.ultimatedressage.com/phpBB/ (hope this one still works, I don't get in there often)

I used to use the Compuserve one most, but like I said, it has nearly died. We all use our real names on there. Mel Voght. On the rest, I'm SaddleFitterVA.

I've been reading the Sales Tax thread with some interest. Since I currently live in WV, and will be moving to VA...I wonder if I should buy the tractor while I still live in WV. Eh...Probably not. I'll just pay the sales tax, although I am doing a farm, boarding operation. Not sure if it qualifies under the VA tax code for exemption.

I spoke to a saleman at the Kubota dealership in P'ville yesterday. I picked up some literature at a Home/Garden show at Apple Blossom Mall from a dealership, just across the border in WV today...that was simply luck of going in for a haircut on the right weekend /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif.

I did talk to a guy at Carlyle Anderson in Winchester, but they have a dealership there in P'ville now. There are NH dealers in Winchester and Frederick, MD, so we certainly are well supplied.

Any locals know which dealers are better for haggling? How much do you really USE service? I've never had any service on a tractor in my 11 years of this farm. We have a Mitsubishi Beaver that I'll be selling very soon...to help finance the new, larger tractor.

I realize I should clarify that "no service" statement. What I mean is that we've never had someone ELSE do service. My husband does oil and filter changes. I grease the things that have a grease nipple fitting on them.
