Good conversation.

The weirdest thing I experienced in the purchasing process was sitting at the dealership and fully expecting to go ahead and buy the 54" mowing deck, the nice one with the pivoting wheels, which makes it easy to slide out from under the tractor.

Well, the price was $1700 with tax. Hmmmmmm... I thought to myself. Do I spend $1700 for this deck? Why would I? First, my two acres has a number of trees that would prevent my taking such a deck between them. Secondly, I have a perfectly good riding lawn mower, with a 42" deck that JUST slides between those trees. Frankly, for $1700 I could almost buy two riding lawn mowers from out in front of Wally World. Granted they would be disposal machines, but shoot, two of them would last close to the end of my days. It was a humorous moment in my decision making process.

Instead I used the $1700 to buy wheel weights, block heater, front mount, and front dozer blade. Things I really needed.

Stuff like that makes the decision making interesting. It's all good.

That looks like a great tractor...is that the BX 1860? I'm sure you'll have fun with that!!!

Well I am kind of stuck waiting until tomorrow to come when I'll get some more gouge from our local JD dealer on the mowers and 2305/2320's. I'll be sure and let everyone know once I make my decision.

Thanks to everyone again for their suggestions and comments. As I've narrowed down the manufacturer that I will probably end up going with I am going to end this thread and start another one more focused on what I'm looking at now....either a JD 2305 or 2320. The reason for this is basically dealer support both for where I am currently located (New Orleans), as well as where I am going (Eastern NC) and then where i will ultimately end up retiring (Western IL). I look forward to seeing everyone's comments on the new thread. Thanks again.

I can't say I'm familiar with those models, but from what you and others have said, the 2320 would probably be better.

Even my b3030 with a 72" mowing deck is surprisingly maneuverable. My problem with it is weight. From what I've seen, I think you'd get much more use out of a sub-compact type tractor, which have real uses, rather than a garden tractor, which really don't seem any more useful than a ride on mower, yet are far more expensive.

For whatever its worth.
