Really nice trailer! I like the way you spect it out , the 17.5 tires are a big plus , much heavier duty than the 14 ply. I’m also thinking a dump trailer would be very useful around the farm. Haven’t looked at the Lamar up close yet but they seem to have some of the nicest features, the heavier 7guage floor and I really like the rigid rail around the top sides. I would be going with a bumper pull so I could pull it with a tractor in the orchard and am leaning towards the drop axle for ease of loading debris by hand and clearance under limbs. Was the 14 footer u sold a straight axle or drop? Also would u recommend the 14 or step up to the 16’ in a bumper pull? Thanks, Brian
I compared side by side the Lamar and PJ. I've owned two PJ's prior and the Lamar in my opinion is a better trailer. Little details, the method of routing wires and hoses, one piece 7 ga deck, rigid rails, and rear gate construction is better. Quality of build, they are the same, and when price difference is taken into consideration, it's a no brainer.
My 14' Lamar had drop axles (24" deck height) to order to load the L47 with ease. With backhoe attached I had 1" clearance on boom, loading onto trailer on flat ground. A few times when dumping loads of rocks, I had to move forward due to lower deck height, to prevent said rocks from finding their way under rear of trailer(on uneven terrain). No doubt the lower deck height is easier to load material by hand.
This new trailer has 26" deck height, so loading the L47 will be a little more of an effort, I think resting end of ramps on a 2x4 will suffice. Raising bed a few inches would also help.
I do a lot of tree/brush removal, and once fire season starts, burning is a no no, so material needs to be haul away. Building side boards, as we speak to increase load volume. With 13" side boards, I'll be able to load 12+ yds, level with the top of the boards, and 15yds by stacking and smashing the material.
I'll tweek the trailer a bit with a couple of side steps, rubber pads to rest loader on tongue, d-rings on the tongue to lash loader down, and beef up the area where spare tire is mounted with expanded metal in oder to store a few more items. And mount a handle to grab onto when I need to get into the bed of the truck to connect/disconnect.
Should be ready to work it in a few days. The only question is do I dare remove snowblower and attach backhoe just yet. Not much of a winter I only worked snow three days this year. We've seen big storms in March here before.
