Ordered a new 16' Lamar gooseneck dump

   / Ordered a new 16' Lamar gooseneck dump #21
My loads with heavy material are 6.5 ton at the most. I split the seam in the bed loading boulders. Lesson learned. Now I throw down a layer of wood chips, and scrap plywood before landing heavy rocks. Enjoy the DE, and keep us posted when you get it.

I try to stay at the 6-7 ton also, that puts me at my 26k max. Sometimes when I haul demolition concrete or black top or boulders, I get over that:) If I have maneuver room I load at floor level with the gate open.

Do you or have you had any torsion axles dumps? This will be my first one so I am not sure what to expect. Sometimes if the load is compact and the highway is rippled my springs can set up a bucking motion, when under power. It could be from gooseneck/frame flex too. This happens on my Load Trail or Lamar.

For some reason Dexter has a 10 year warrantee on torsion but only 5 years on spring axles. I see on Lippert's site, they went one up on Dexter and have a 6 year/11 year warrantee:) I looked long and hard at Diamond C but too many cons. I would like to have one of their FMAX208 flatbeds in about a 30'. Nice trailer I think, in spite of the Lippert axles. They are probably ok as long as they are not fitted with the 8k hybrid, it only has 12"x2" brakes.

Hauling rocks on my Big Tex 14LX.

What cons did the Diamond C have? They make some good trailers.

What cons did the Diamond C have? They make some good trailers.

What I found comparing their LPT model, 20k gvw v/s PJ's new DE model, 20k gvw, was significant.

The Diamond C used 8"x15# I-beam main frame, Lippert 10k torsion axles with 215/75x17.5 tires (4800 lbs) and a light weight tail gate. Two hinges, even on the high side dumps, 1 cam lock and the spreader gate chain is too far up the gate. It is about $3k more than the PJ.

The PJ uses 10"x19# I-beam main frame and even box the inside from the front axle to the gooseneck riser. Dexter torsion 10k axles with the 235/75x17.5 super singles (6000 lbs). Three hinges on the tall tail gate, 2 cam locks and the chain at the bottom.

Diamond C does have a new model with the Fleetneck and engineered beam main frame coming that appears to be a fine trailer. I have no idea on pricing or the fine print yet. Here is a picture of it:

The first load is the hardest:) Have you had any issues with dumping a big load yet? I have one like yours with 3' sides that has a struggle if you load it too much to the front. I do a lot of off highway hauls so I need the pin weight. The first good load, the bottom hoist mount bent so I had to add some iron. I see the new trailers have a heavier mount now. Over all it has been a good trailer, two years old and 20k miles on it. I am going to retire it to my driver, she hauls lighter loads and ordered a new PJ DE model, 20k gvw, 7'x16'x3'.

Looks like I will need to e-mail some pictures to Lamar. My dump bed is cracking on the top front corners, up the outside and across the top under the side boards. Not sure why there is stress at this point, even with a heavy load of cinders it is rare to get more than half way up the front.

I wonder if it would be prudent to remove the wood extensions before sending them?
I have a suspicion they might blame you for overloading? Even though I’m certain you are not and you built the extensions for light materials (leaves, mulch, etc.)

Love the telescoping front mount hoist. Makes so much sense. It’s why I’m holding out on my dump trailer a bit longer. I think all brands will offer the telescoping front hoists in the next few years. Like Diamond C a lot. May be buying a 35’ 35,000lb gooseneck from them soon. Just have to get a feel for where the economy is going with the CV

I had a minor issue with my last Lamar that needed welding. They were willing to pay me back the cost of the work. The cost was minimal, and I never bothered. Those guys at Lamar are pretty honest, business like and stand behind their product.

I agree, Lamar stepped right up and paid for the repair when I had to fix the lift frame.

The trailer dealer where I bought it said he will be glad to fix it, so that is my plan. It is kind of a long way to tow it but I would like him to see it. Lamar said they have never seen one crack there. I think with the hoist mounted in the center of the bed floor it is trying to "push" the floor up. The sides prevent this, but they in turn are prying on the front corners. I will be glad to retire it to a light duty truck/trucker

Plus, like others have said, it might just be a poor weld. It is 2 years old with 20k miles of hard use, I don't think it will survive another 2 years of me....
