So I went out to fire up the log splitter for the first time since last year, and it started on the second pull! YAY!!!

and then, after about two minutes, it sputtered Coughed sputterEd, stumbled, sputtered then died.

pulled it again, started right up, then repeat.

gas was fresh, used two days ago in pressure washer with no issues.

pulled carb, looked clean, sprayed it all out with CC, reassembled.

Started, smoothed out, then sputtered stumbled etc.

any suggestions?

purchased in 2014, warranted for new engine in 2015 (factory forgot to install wrist pin retaining clip, wrist pin walked out while running… not my fault.)

never had an issue with it before.

THANKS!!!!

Does it have “The automatic Choke feature”? I have see that feature malfunction and the engine would run like that.

Nope -fully manual choke.

no “Low Oil Shutoff” either.

UPDATE:

I got disgusted, drained half the gas, added a cup of Sea Foam, pulled it through and let it roun for about 20seconds, and left it for two hours. Running like it always did now.

Which bothers me after disassembling and cleaning the carb thoroughly — I guess carb cleaner isn’t what it used to be???

EPA mandated carbs have smaller passages and harder to clean. Look at all the replacement carbs on Amazon because people give up and replace them.

Most definitely not what it use to be. Got to the point it just doesn't work on dirty gummed up carb. Some of the spray carb and choke cleaners work a little better but are not great either.

Very true, and in some cases a little corrosion from water contaminated makes the carb unrepairable. Part of the reason most dealers are leaning toward carb replacement not carb repair. and in some cases the complete carb is cheaper than the parts to repair it and that even goes for OEM carbs in some cases.

I would not buy a Chinese carb from Amazon ever. Cheap and works correctly are 2 different things entirely.

I have purchased two for different equipment. They are still working fine. Cannot say the same for the pull your shoulder out of joint before it starts Stihl chainsaw carb.

Polar opposite here. Not sure what Stihl uses for a carb, I'm an Echo person and they use Walbro pumpers but I've had terrible luck with 'One Hung Low' cheap carbs.

Did you have old gas in it?

On replacement carbs I’ve only done that once. I got it running right eventually, it was on a lawn boy, but it took a lot of work. Rebuilding a carb is better in my opinion if you can get a kit.
