Does anyone have on of these? I have a 16" McCulloch and want to get an 18" for bigger jobs. Ran across an Oregon at the local co-op but know nothing about there quality or track record.

Do they have a chainsaw shop to repair them? If so, and it looks like a good place to be going back to in the next 10 years for minor repairs and adjustment, then - go for it.

However, Stihl (my personal preference) and Husky, along with others if there is a good shop nearby would be a better way to go, IMO.

Just saw that Stihl has some saws out with the primer pump (like some other 3cycle engines) as well as a new patented "EasyStart" that makes starting the saw a breeze. Might be worth looking into if the jerk on the starting rope causes any concern for you. It starts with a slow steady pull. Pretty impressive, but not on the MS361 that I have.

Are you looking for more displacement or a longer bar?

Never heard of an "Oregon" chainsaw?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

no, there is an oregon brand saw. Saw it again this weekend. Just not sure of the track record.

Probably just a rebranded saw like John Deere does with their chain saws.

I have the Stihl Farm Boss with the easy start....never fails. Mine has the 18" bar and this is one tough saw!

No experience with Oregon Chainsaws (though as someone else mentioned, there is a good chance they are just rebranded from some other manufacturer. In my opinion, the 3 best chainsaws out there are (not necessarily in order):

Husqvarna
Jonsered
Stihl

Husqvarna and Jonsered are basically the same thing... Husqvarna owns both companies. Both brands have a couple of "levels" of saws, standard and "commercial" (though they don't call them that). I own a Jonsered "standard" grade and am very happy with it. It has held up well for me. I'm probably going to get another, more powerful saw in the near future... it will be a Jonsered or Husqvarna. I will stick with the 16" bar, however. I've dropped a tree that was almost 24" with my 16" bar (probably could have done bigger, just don't have anything that big to deal with). I don't see a need for longer bar length... it's less manueverable and more fatiguing, and I don't forsee needing to drop any 30"+ trees in the near future.

Stihl also makes very good saws, I'm just not as familiar with them.

I have an Oregon bar on my Homelite and 3 Oregon chains for it.

have a craftsman saw with 20" bar and 46cc and will cut through some pretty big logs. It also has a deal where you can bring it back in three months if you don't like and although it is a cheaper saw it does come with a 2 year warranty for 30 bucks on top of the pretty inexpensive price

Possible to get a picture of that saw? Sounds real interesting to me, as I have never heard of one, at least recently. May have years ago, but don't recollect it vividly for sure.

I'll see what I can do...the guys at the co-op will probably think I am nuts when I snap a picture of the saw. I'll just tell them that it is proof to the wife that I do not spend ALL the money on tractors! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

On second thought guys, it may be another brand saw with an Oregon bar. I will definitely find out. Sorry for all this confusion! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
