Oregon Drivers Can Now Learn To Pump Their Own Gas

I've never been to the state but have read that it is hardly uniform in terms of topography/climate (I think I read that there is a large area of desert?). But like the rest of us, you get governed by the will of your big cities.

COW... California, Oregon, and Washington all offer incredible differences in climate and topography! Probably the most diverse of all the states in that regard, which I treasure. And... yes the few big cities definitely sway the political leaning for the whole state, which is frustrating for those that don't care to live in the metro areas but still are significantly affected.

I for one, am looking forward to pumping my own gas next trip to/through Oregon.

Oregon's High Desert Museum in Bend is fascinating, a must-see. The eastern portions of all the West Coast states drain eastward into the Great Basin, a huge high-altitude desert.

A whole afternoon in this museum can enlarge an appreciation of this unique region.

Wisconsin's climate is not as varied but the topography is. Having traveled a lot in Europe (job) I surmised that immigration in the 1800's made sense because settlements occurred in places that reminded them of home...the Nords settled in the northwest because of the lakes and the swamps. The Germans largely settled in the fertile flat lands west of Lake Michigan. The Swiss settled in the rolling hills in the southwest corner.

I recall once I was in Medford OR and had to get the rental car back to the airport pronto to catch a flight. I pulled up to a station near the mall there and noticed the attendant was by himself with about 8 cars needing gas on both sides of the station (4 islands total). I looked at the pump and decided getting yelled at by an attendant was better than getting yelled at by my wife for missing the flight home. So I inserted my cc, pumped my gas and got on my way with the attendant yelling at me in my rear view mirror. The pump was not your normal pump but I figured it out easy enough, probably that way to discourage out of staters.

Some of my colleagues and I used to take leisurely strolls through Bowman Field on the way to lunch on warm spring days.

I am sure the slow strolls through the fields was to increase the amount of vitamin D provided by the sun... Twas for health purposes and all that. :thumbsup::laughing::laughing::laughing:
