Looks like they have circuit boards too... at least the site I visited.

I'm with you... keep it rugged and simple without electronics.

Yeah.....I think they did away with the best opener they ever built (IMHO) and went electronic...you can't sell circuit boards and service calls without them.

I'll keep mine forever !

A major complaint with the gate openers is "Circuit Boards". I wonder if anyone has ever incorporate a lighting or spike diverter into the wiring system like those used to protect a well pump motor. https://www.bing.com/images/search?...1AB92E80180D42A062B4216C839BCEF0E&FORM=IQFRBA

might or might not help.

I run mine on solar.. and the bulk of the problem I have found was water handeling...

those arms are quite difficult to keep watter out of...

i have often wondered about using a boot over the arm that would accordian telescope.. problem is the throw of the arm is sooo long, that you would have to use something like the flexible dryer hose, and it would look junky, vs something like a tie rot boot.

I was expecting the motor today but it didn't show up yet.

The pics show the post brace, the bracket brace and pivot pin mod and the sleeve I added to strengthen the pipe after damage.

What model number was it?

I don't recall. It was purchased at Atwoods in Oklahoma. Double gate version.

Best bet for professional openers is from King Metals.

Nice job on the hinges... often the weak link in my experience.

Thanks. That's what I figured as well

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind if and when this one fails.

Every time this comes up, I hear the standard "Mighty Mule is a piece of junk... you gotta have an (apollo, or liftmaster, or whatever, insert appropriate one here)"... Yep, I've had to fully replace Mighty mules in the ten or so years that I've been running them on two different gates. If I add up everything I've put into them, I'm still well under what I'd pay for most of the other brands ONCE, to say nothing about a circuit board for one of those costing as much as another Mighty Mule. I can swap them out in about five minutes now that the hardware is installed. There's something to be said for "disposable" equipment sometimes when the costs actually work out as well as they do on the Mighty Mule..

I have to confes. I misdiagnosed the cause of the opener problem. The actual cause of dead mule was bad battery. The voltage was 14V but when the motor loaded the battery the voltage dropped to about 3V. The motor didn't have much life left so it didn't hurt to put new one in.
