More GOOD NEWS! Mas des Bories Olive Oil won a Gold Medal today int he biggest competition in southern France. In Marseille Mas des Bories - Bouteillan was awarded Gold. Only 10% of all entries win a Gold Medal. The competition is for olive oil produced in Provence, Alps, Cote d'Azure (PACA)about 90% of all olive oil grown in France.

I still did not hear how we did in Germany but in the meantime we did win Gold in our region of PACA. Next is Paris. I get so nervous with these competitions, I hate to get my hopes up to much, however I really do want to win recognition for the oil. there are different judges in Paris, you can win in PACA and walk away with nothing in Paris. In Paris you compete also against another area, the Camarge area. So you can get gold in PACA then nothing in Paris. so for for 2005 we got gold in Marseill and Gold in Paris. Even if we dont' win anything in paris, having Gold in Marseille is still very much respected in France, and particularly in our area. We wasted no time calling our customers to tell them. Plus I sent an e-mail to igourmet to tell the buyer about our award. He should be getting the oil this week, if not this week then early next week.

I still didn't get any word out of Germany, and that is really the largest competition.

Look at the title of your thread. There is nothing but good news allowed here. You surely will win in Germany too.:)

Congratulations! We all knew you would do it.:D

Hey Rox! Where did ja go! No news in a while. ;)

Weather here has warmed up a bit. I have more leaf burn but I hope the worst is past. There are hints of new buds at the base of the leaves on the lateral branches. Perhaps I will have olives soon!!!:D

Hey! More Good News!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heard back form Germany late this afternoon. We took 2 Gold Medals. One for our AOC (which is a blend) and one for the Bouteillan. Gee it was a good thing I saved plenty of Bouteillan and AOC :) in 2005 in this same competition we won a Gold for the Bouteillan and in 2006 we won a Gold for the AOC, now this year they both came in, hey that's pretty good.

I heard back from i gourmet dot com and they were going to be testing our oil yesterday and let me know today, or later this week. We are still on pins and needles for that opportunity. Of course as soon as I heard about the 2 Golds in germany, the biggest olive oil competition in the world, I right away e-mailed him. I hope it helps. This week-end is the national competition in Paris. I am not holding my breath because you can win in Marseille a Gold Medal and then in Paris you get nothing. I would like to win of course, but I have seen crazy results with other growers so if we come up goose eggs in Paris I'll take it with a grain of salt.

The German win really really helps our sales in Germany. In fact our distributor sent us an e-mail early February wanting to know if we entered and if we won or not. As soon as I e-mailed i gourmet dot com I e-mailed our German distributor with the good news. We sell about 24% to the USA, 25% in France, 25% in Germany and 25% we sell to the mill to cover our pressing expense. Since olives tend to bear every other year the fall harvest should be lower than this year but I'll tell you the trees do look great, the ones we cut last year. Deep deep green color and really vigerous. of course the ones we are pruning right now look just pitiful, but they will recover.

I am rather amazed that the Grossane varital/cultivar dind't win. There is another competition, well a book actually that is devoted just to ranking olive oils, and they selected the Grossane, so go figure. Personally I think this year the Grossane is the best but I am not going to argue with the guys who are giving out the gold medals for the other varietals/cultivars that won. if they think they are the best, well okay by me :) :) :)

Congratulations. Do you actually get a medal or is it just a judge claiming your the best? Be sure and post pics when you get it, but I guess you knew that already. I'm sure there will be changes in your label also, right, to let folks know they are getting "Gold Medal" quality oil.
