Out of state guys that have bought from Barlows?

I guess I come at this a little differently from Axlehub. Assuming the OP recounted events accurately, I'm assuming we agree that there is no excuse for the bad behavior of the first dealer. But I also think the OP did nothing at all wrong by mentioning Barlows, even had the first guy not acted like a smug jerk. Retail tractor shopping is nothing more than an open, competitive bidding process. It's not unusual for equipment vendors to know who they are bidding against in response to an RFP. I doubt Barlows minds one whit if they're used as a stalking horse. Moreover, absent an understanding that the terms of a vendor's bid are to be kept confidential, there is nothing wrong with saying to dealer X "I'd like to support you as the more local dealer, but dealer Y is offering this to me. I owe it to myself and my family to be sensible with my money. What can you do to get closer to their deal?"

I understand your point completely Threepoint. However in your example of what you'd say . . Not mentioning who the other dealers you are talking too will focus more on the one you are talking to. It eliminates excuses yet tells them you have better pricing. Where another dealer is located (near or far) . . Has no bearing or need on the person you are talking to. Personally my goal is not envy or jealousy or excuses . . . I'm looking at educating the dealer of my needs. . My personslity and theirs are the issue .
Just my style.

Now if it had to do with a different quality of service (like untrained vs trained) then its different. Or a history of someone dumping equipment in an area without proper preparation of the product.

But sales people can be taught deceptive practices . . one of them is blame the competition or murky the water or confuse the prospect. Giving names of other dealers is the key for using that decrptive training. Trust me . . that training is absolutely done at some dealerships.

What is the tough part in my method . . Is to be honest yet not be bullied into telling the names or actual quotes. And again believe me "teaching bully-ing technics us part of some sakes departments."

AxleHub, I don't get your angle. I am man enough to stand up for myself and you were not on the phone listening to this guy. Don't presume you know anything about me or what you interpreted from my post. I don't appreciate or even care what you think about your evaluation of the situation that is for sure. I was polite to this guy, as we spoke. I was exact in every way. Did you miss the part where he said "Kubota" said my trade was only worth $600? I am not stupid, I know Kubota had nothing to say regarding what a dealer would offer in trade. This is a dishonest individual who I knew was lying to me. As I sat there I listened to this guy till he had said enough that I knew we could not do business. I pointed out to the dealer that his new better price was more like $200 more than his initial offer. If I was to give you advise it would be that tone and inflection of what we read is not always easy to determine when reading an email or reading from a BB. Nor is it always easy to explain a situation. The real point of the post was the question about the process of closing a deal with Barlows, not so much the dick of a dealer (unnamed).

Your exactly the kind of person I would prefer not post on my thread. I am looking for customers of Barlows. Frankly your opinions on life and my conduct are better explained to your kids. I am not interested.

To the rest, I appreciate your insight.

<sarcasm>Use one dealer as leverage against another? GASP. How do you live with yourself.<\sarcasm>
Isn't that negotiating 101???

Buy who you need to buy from. The likelihood of using your warranty is slim with a Kubota anyway (oooo, that should get people fired up).

Sure did. I don't want your opinion. OK? Go post some place else. You totally diverted my thread and I don't appreciate that.

There are three dealers near Spring Grove listed on Kubota's website, some or all could be unfairly tarnished by not outing the dealer you are not happy with. Not sure they deserve that. I have no problem with telling it like it is and dropping names, in both good and bad experiences, but I can understand why some don't like to do so when the experience is negative, although I just wanted to point out that might not be fair to others in the same area who could be great dealers.

Kiwi, I am hoping this thread can get back to the point. No need to cloud the issue further. Meaning no disrespect, don't want an international incident with a good Commonwealth allay. I suppose you are NOT a Barlows customer. Joking a bit to get back on track....

Really want to hear from Barlow buyers. What was the process and experience.

Thanks!

I think he is looking for long distance customers of Barlows not negotiating tactics. I think you will find quite a few on this board. Good luck! Murph

Nice display of congeniality.....

I made a post on his other thread. Sorry I did. If I was his local dealer, well, he wouldn't be dealing with me at all.
