Outrageous propane prices

Propane prices may well put a lot of farms out of business. At the present price of propane it will cost me about $9000 to fill my tanks. That much will last about two months.

Jerry, have you ever met a fellow named Jon Barrett in the same business you're in up there in Arkansas?

Bird,
I haven’t met him. But I recognize the name.

I have a 100 gallon tank on a keep filled service. The guy just filled it and I checked the bill so I could post my rate. Guess what, they no longer put the rate on the ticket, just the gallons. Probably because the rate changes between the time he leaves the shop in the morning and when he gets back.

One of the guys at work just filled his tank with around 150 gallons for just shy of $2 per gallon. That was what he used in December which was the coldest on record. He was out of town for two weeks, otherwise it would have been higher!

I have a heat pump and had a $175 bill where I normally would have $125 max. I can hear you guys really feeling sad for me but I only have a 1250 square foot house. During the 10 days around Xmas I burned danged near a cord of wood keeping the house warm. Heat pumps, dont, when the temps get below the 30s. I have plenty of wood that is for sure.....

It is a little over $2/gallon in central Alabama.

I don't know about other areas of the country but in the midwest you can contract for propane in the summer. Granted it's a risk but at least you know what you're going to pay. This summer I contracted at .80. I thought that was really high at the time but I'm glad that I did now. I also have the propane injection on my diesel pickup and can go by there and fill that at the contracted price as well, barbeque tanks too. I've never gotten beat too bad by doing this and I don't have any surprises each month.

Just paid $1.87 per gallon in N. Georgia. Driver said they are not taking any new customers. There supplier has cut them from 8 to 6 truck loads per week.

Topped off my tank on Saturday for $1.999/gallon. Boy, I'm glad that I only use the propane for stove, laundry and hot water, and not heating the house. I use oil for that and the last load ('bout a week ago) ran $1.3999/gallon.

I am amazed to hear that AL has around the same rate - NY usually pays outrageous taxes /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

I feel lucky to be locked in at $1.149 for the season, could have prebought at $.999 but didn't. Last winter I was locked in at $.899, I'm also on budget pay which gets me courtesy fill...I never run out, they stop by and check and fill based on heating degree days and history of useage.
