Backhoe Outside Storage

A tarp works fine in the meantime.

I might go that route. I do it now with the riding mower. The tractor is a lot higher. I'm semi handicapped so it might be difficult to get the tarp up over the tractor. Won't know until I try. It's definite that the implements will be on skids and under tarps until I get the shed.

A few weeks ago, many around here had their cars totaled and windshields and windows broken by hail in the middle of the night. Plenty of them have garages, but the vehicle or vehicles were outside due to the garage being used for storage. Is keeping $300 worth of junk in the garage worth getting a $7K car totalled by hail? It's hard for me to understand the mentality. The OP has a different situation, as he is building a new place.

Around here, in the country, the cars/trucks live outside. The workshop/tractor/other equipment go in the garage (and all worth way more than $300). Cars are designed to be outside in the weather. Of course we don't get the severe weather you get in Arkansas. If I lived in tornado alley I'd probably have a concrete bunker for anything I valued. :) Glad you're okay!

Softball-sized Hail in Colorado Injures 8, Kills 2 Animals at Zoo | The Weather Channel

That was it had hailed at least marble or larger daily within 100 miles of Denver for a week before & about every other day for a week after.

Swaths of hail are often only a few miles wide or what not & you'll have up to an inch or 2 of hail on the ground in one spot. Then none under half a mile away.

Thursday afternoon I decided I don't like outside storage. I have one thing outside, a K.K. carry-all with a section of spike harrow chained under it. I was spraying the bare metal hitching points on it with Fluid Film. My left hand was resting on top of the carry-all while I was bent over spraying. A wasp didn't like my hand that close to his home and let me know about it. He must have thought I was a slow learner so he told me again.

I exacted revenge at dusk.

Still, garages should be used to store your most valuable vehicles, not for hoarding junk like some people do. I would be ashamed to open my garage door to the street if it was full of hoarded junk.

I agree with that! In Florida especially (for some reason) most people when they open the garage door, it's a solid wall of junk. For me, I value a well-organized garage even more than a well-organized home. My Florida garage was painted in bright soothing colors, brightly and warmly lit, clean and swept, and everything nicely organized and ready for your hands to reach for your tools. It was so pleasant we would sit there in the evenings in lounge chairs with the doors up. Sounds tacky but it's kind of a Florida thing. :)

I just don't happen to have a garage now, yet.

Garages should be used to store whateverTheF their owners want to store in them; if you want to store your car in a structure that's actually less weatherproof than the car, go for it.

Do you have more rules for how people "should" use their property?

My rust prone vintage Land Cruiser stays in the garage as well as the motorcycle. The tractor, lawn mowers, and gas powered tools live in the barn. The new cars stay outside.
