Oven, do you use self clean cycle or do you use easy off?

I learned from my wife what drip pans and trays are for. Seldom have much to clean up in the oven and I found from one use of that spray crap - I DO NOT like the fumes. I just use a foam cleaning pad, Dawn and elbow grease.

I think many a decade back I used the oven clean feature in a rental. Never again have I used that "feature." Just seemed too dangerous and cannot be good for the oven. We just don't care about the carbon at the bottom of the oven.:laughing::laughing:

Over the holidays, we had a recipe that called for a 500 degree oven temperature. I don't know if our oven will go to 500 but I was not going to try either. Just used a lower temperature for more time.

So to answer the title of the thread, No and No.:laughing::laughing:

Later,
Dan

I use neither one.
Cannot see the waste of energy and extra heat in the summertime, for self clean.. and I think Easy Off could be classified as a chemical weapon.! LOL I hate that stuff
... To clean the oven we pour a cup of water in the bottom, and bake for 30 minutes at 190 or so. I forget what the book specifies. But keep it under boiling point. It's in the owners manual of our range.
...This steam cleans the oven, and most stuff just wipes out.
....if your oven does not have a solid pan in the bottom, to put water in, just use a cup of water in a baking dish.
This method still requires a bit of elbow grease, but works well for us, as we are preventative, and try to clean up any messes before they accumulate.

Well today was a great day to give this method a try. I have flat bottom ovens (no exposed elements) and I used just enough water so it did not run out and ran the oven for an hour at 190 F. It worked very well. I used my plastic scraper that I use on cast iron pans on the pooled up areas and elbow grease on the rest. It did not work so well on the sides but there is not much there. Thank you for this great idea.

No how about the racks? They cool down so fast when taken out of the oven. I did read about soaking those in Cascade dishwasher detergent which I do sometimes with my barbecue racks and that works somewhat on them.
