There is a big distributor that has definite quality control problems on their quick disconnect clutches. We used to sell them & had lots of problems. Since we started getting them direct from a manufacturer where we could specify design changes like a deeper snap ring grove I don't think we have had a single problem.
One thing I did find while trying to figure out why some customers have repeat problems and others (like us with our shop tractors & own personal tractors) have had no problems for many years is that if the shaft is hard to telescope it can pull the clutches apart when the mower is raised or lowered. They are not designed for pressure in the in/out direction. Be sure your shaft slides in and out easily & is well greased. Also be sure that the shaft is not too long and bottoming out when the mower is raised.
Other than that, there are very few makers of the quick disconnect design. The pin on style seems to be more solid but much less convenient. I did see an Italian QD design several years ago but it was very expensive and I cant find them anymore.
