Paint question...

   / Paint question... #11
I painted my tractor with Kubota enamel paint. Initially I thought the primer was junk compared to Rustoleum automotive gray primer. However, I wanted to use the two in combination to avoid compatability issues. Once dry and cured the paint is incredibly durable and it is really hard to tell it was done with a can.

My entire bucket was painted and even after hauling wood and sheetrock and digging in the soil the paint still looks great.

I had the hood painted at a body shop so I can tell the difference between the two but that is mainly due to the automotive clear coat that was applied on the hood. Take your time and do small areas at a time. If you have decals to removed get a HF cheap heat gun. Makes it much easier.

Since I know NOTHING about this type of painting.....

Question: Could I use that POR paint (and/or it's prep stuff).... and once it dries, take some yellow Rust Oleum and give it the yellow color?

Yes, but I think it would be a waste of money and effort. POR is great for frames of cars that are exposed to salt, etc. However, the challenge on equipment is getting scraped and rubbed, not corrosion environments. I don't think POR is any better than other primers for equipment applications.

POR is not an ideal primercoat. If you choose to use POR, under your paint, be sure to scuff sand it thoroughly. Or, you can end up with your top coats peeling off.

It is not the best thing to use for your application. That's why I did not recommend it.
